Sometimes we may do evil, but we are not inherently evil. I see no need for an authority higher than reason and compassion.

Some people have passion not compassion and their passion is miss lead. And you are mistaken. We by nature are evil. We inherited it form Adam ,but Jesus is son of God he didn't inherit sin. He is perfect. Not like me or you. I can't get through one day just in my own thinking with out evil thoughts. Jesus walked everyday of his life holy and righteous. We like evil things, it fun. Come on now. We are perverted in sex. selfish, prideful , boastful arrogant, Ect,Ect

To get back on topic: I'm still waiting to find out, in one of these millions of threads about abortion, why it's bad, from the point of view of a foetus, to be aborted.

When one hears truth they can do one of two things cry or become out raged. If correction is down out of love people tend to have humility and thankfulness. I suppose that on the internet, especially if one does not take the time to read carefully, it is not hard to misunderstand what another person says; therefore, I forgive you for misrepresenting my words. I would advise you, however, to be more careful when reading what others say in the future, and not to be so quick to judge or to accuse, especially in such a condescending and insulting tone. Accusing others of saying things they didn't say--or worse, thinking things they didn't think--is a good way to make them upset. I tell you this with compassion and respect, and hope you will accept it appropriately.

It's not the cuddly new born that Pro-Life organizations usually show.

My issue of the death penalty is that one argue that killing is wrong, and if you kill someone, we will kill you, (which you just said was wrong.) One guy who told me that he was pro-death penalty wanted to go Old School and kill all the homosexuals and adulterers, following the OT. (Then, one would have to also kill disobedient children, etc.) It seems more about revenge than concerns over safety.

You know life comes from conception. Just as you plant a seed in the ground add little water add sun , so the shoot in the ground isn't whatever one planted. Soon as a root come out of the seed it is a plant. No longer a seed. As you plant your seed in a women and it starts to grow it is human life no longer a cell. Which takes on its own growth which you or anyone else shouldn't have any dominion over.

I'm not certain either fits the definition of a "double standard."
That said, I can understand both positions, but I think, if you are anti-abortion and pro-death penalty, you need to find a name for the former position other than "pro-life."

Really, though, they are both rational enough. One is "the guilty deserve to die, but the innocent shouldn't be killed," and the other is, "People who are alive shouldn't be killed, but embryos are not yet people."

One of us is confused. Maybe it's me. Because it looks to me like you just got finished saying that every human being is dirty and filthy and evil, even babies... And then you go on to say that children are pure and innocent and righteous. Could you clarify?

To me, it's not a matter of "righteousness" or "wickedness." In my understanding, good and evil are not things one is, but rather things one does. Every person has the capacity to do both good and evil, and he makes the choice between them again and again, every moment of every day. I don't see human morality as a binary, with the only choices being "perfectly righteous" and "horribly sinful and evil." There's a vast middle ground, in which the majority of humanity resides.

Do you really think that a baby's crying is a sign of some sort of moral defect? An infant cries because developmentally, that's the only means it has to communicate that it's in pain, or afraid, or hungry, or whatever else it's feeling. Morality is not even a relevant concern in children until they've reached a certain stage of brain development.
