James(1:8) he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does” (James 1:6–8)
Many Christians I think are confused about these verses. If you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, you are not double minded. The double minded man spoken of by James is one that is so confused in who and what he believes, that he is not capable of accepting Jesus. True Christians have already moved past this earthly confusion and found a home in Jesus.
James writes that such a man will receive nothing from God. We know by faith, that God pours his grace out on his loving children. Although we stumble and fall, we have faith in God's grace, or his unmerited favor, and know that we will receive blessings and mercy from our God through acceptance in Jesus. It is foolish to think that good works will give us blessings from God. In reality, we already deserve nothing. The good works are a product of the sanctification that come as a product of his love that is poured into us. Now we also know faith without works is dead, but thankfully true faith, as those who are NOT double minded possess, is not faith of ourselves, but a "GIFT from God, so that no one should boast". This faith naturally produces works, and naturally brings unmerited favor and blessings. The two are not dependent on each other.
So if you accept Jesus, and are troubled by this verse, have faith! You are already freed from this confusion by your savior. As Christians we are double minded no more.
