  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does your Church go door to door? I'm friends with a Pastor in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, and they go door to door...is it common in the Reformed/Presbyterian Church? The good Pastor has a Baptist background, maybe that's where he got the zeal?

Only Baptists come to our door. My teenage daughter occasionally attends a Baptist church with her friend when she spends the night or there is an event. It never fails, the following week they are at our doorstep making sure she (we) are "saved." They have been here several times and go through the same spiel everytime. It gets on my last nerve.

Last time they wanted to speak to my daughter in private, and I said that they could speak with her, but I was going to be in the room. They immediately began grilling her on her faith commitment. I assured them that we WERE Christians and that we appreciated their interest, but it was not necessary to come back.

My home is my space and I don't care to be invaded.

That sounds horrible.

Things are different where I'm from, my Pastor would ring my neck if I pulled a stunt like that.

My home is my space and I don't care to be invaded.

It's your home, they should've got the hint the first time by. When I speak with people on the street, it's never like that. I ask a few questions, if they don't want to hear me out, fine. No pressure at all. I can't believe someone would do that...thats crazy.

The biggest thing that I found appealing about my Church was the focus on the Gospel, honesty when dealing with people and no pressure. Folks have to want to come to Christ...

Thanks Preacher!

This particular church is very heavy handed...many in my neighborhood close up shop turn off the lights and petend that they are not home when this bunch hits the street.

It is too bad, because they have a GREAT youth program....but it seems that they "use" their youth program to troll for adults.

Our church doesn't go "door to door", but we do get out in the neighborhoods. One of the main ways is KIA, or Kindness in Action. Once a month on a Saturday, about 100-200 people get together and go out in the area and do nice things--rake yards, shovel driveways, pass out free papers, free coffee, 'bag hunger", clean restrooms, help out at local Harmony House(homeless shelter) etc etc. Do this to show God's love in practical ways, refusing any payment. It's a way to show people about God's Grace( it's free!) and get them to see that there's more to 'church' then showing up on Sundays. We really want to impact the area in a positive way--in a practical way, helping those who cannot help themselves. It's an awesome way to share the Gospel with people you don't know, and we've had a lot of great feedback from it, as well as quite a few new christians coming out of it.

Honestly, I think it's more effective then going "door to door" because that is so often associated with the JW's and Mormon's(although I've never had a Mormon at my door and they have a pretty big "church" in our area....) People sadly are turned off by it. It's rather intrusive in my opinion, kind of like telemarketers...

Our church is a "community" church but definately teaches the 5-points and belongs to the American Baptist Conference. I think the reason they decided on the community church name is to stay away from any particular deniminational ties, to attract a wider variety of people. I know of a former Catholic couple that probably wouldn't have started going to this church if it bore a "baptist" name, the fact that it had no denominational ties was appealing since they were seeking to get out of that. They are now very active in the church, awesome people!

that would be very annoying. I've heard about "baptists" who were this way, but I've never met any. It seems....a bit over-zealous. There has to be a better way to reach out to the community than this. Especially since you've made it clear your family is christian!

I have gone door to door once but it was a once in a million year type of thing. My church doesnt go Door to Door but we do have a TV ministry on our local Cable access channel and we use to have a radio slot on our local christian station.

I belong to a church that had 23 Christian souls 4 years ago and it now has over a 100 every Sunday. I think going door to door has it's ups and downs, people don't go to the market place anymore like in the N.T. days, what else can we do? I like the KIA idea.

good points! Glad you like the KIA idea. I think it's so awesome. I share it with as many people as I can, because I really think that it's a great way for many people to get out there and share their religion in a "real" way, especially for people who don't want to go "door to door", or don't feel mature enough to share their faith that way. It also brings the congregation closer because they can work together and see results. And for the kids who are involved, it's a chance for them to see the world differently, especially if they are involved in passing out food to the poor, or helping at the homeless shelter. And they see how being a christ-follower is more than just church on sundays....

BTW, if you want more info on KIA, you can PM and I can get you in contact with the coodinators at church. They are well equipped to help you get started with something like that in your church, since it sounds like your church is a very out-reaching one also.

Send me all you can on KIA, I'll look at it and pass it onto my Pastor.

By my nic, you can see that I stop people in the street a lot, it's made me a lot of friends, not many converts but it has given me the chance to speak with people.
