Our church doesn't go "door to door", but we do get out in the neighborhoods. One of the main ways is KIA, or Kindness in Action. Once a month on a Saturday, about 100-200 people get together and go out in the area and do nice things--rake yards, shovel driveways, pass out free papers, free coffee, 'bag hunger", clean restrooms, help out at local Harmony House(homeless shelter) etc etc. Do this to show God's love in practical ways, refusing any payment. It's a way to show people about God's Grace( it's free!) and get them to see that there's more to 'church' then showing up on Sundays. We really want to impact the area in a positive way--in a practical way, helping those who cannot help themselves. It's an awesome way to share the Gospel with people you don't know, and we've had a lot of great feedback from it, as well as quite a few new christians coming out of it.
Honestly, I think it's more effective then going "door to door" because that is so often associated with the JW's and Mormon's(although I've never had a Mormon at my door and they have a pretty big "church" in our area....) People sadly are turned off by it. It's rather intrusive in my opinion, kind of like telemarketers...
Our church is a "community" church but definately teaches the 5-points and belongs to the American Baptist Conference. I think the reason they decided on the community church name is to stay away from any particular deniminational ties, to attract a wider variety of people. I know of a former Catholic couple that probably wouldn't have started going to this church if it bore a "baptist" name, the fact that it had no denominational ties was appealing since they were seeking to get out of that. They are now very active in the church, awesome people!
