Olympia here. The people in this city are.. not very friendly in general.
I've found that people aren't particularly friendly and outgoing around here (Bothell) or elsewhere in Seattle. I've lived here a year and had a much harder time meeting people and connecting than I ever have before.
I love the church I go to but haven't met anyone there.
The world's your oyster and you can't live by a self-fulfilling prophecy of being socially doomed. Those aforementioned hobbies and etc are the places where you will find with whom you click and then, tolerance. I have friends from all walks of life: atheists, muslims, jews, adolescents...
Behave in a christian manner and good people will approach.
Good luck!

Sorry I'm late to the party! I don't visit this fora often.

I'm in Spokane and I can tell you that Eastern WA (EW) is very different that Western WA (WW). It's really like two different states. Politically EW is very conservative and WW is very liberal. People in EW are very friendly and mostly polite; the exact opposite in WW. In EW the folk are down-to-earth and unpretentious whereas in WW many are materialistic and always trying to keep up with the Jones. Drivers in WW go 5 miles over the limit and those in EW go 5 miles under.

I'm sure if you were in EW especially the Spokane area, you'd likely find a church to suit your tastes. It's just a cultural issue really.

I agree with what everybody's saying about Seattle's 'shyness.' Even though I grew up in Bellevue, I didn't really notice it until I started college. And the Eastern/Westrern Washington difference is true in my experience, too. ...and if you're looking for a church, there's one I like very much in Kirkland - St. Katherine's - I've made several friends there as the parish is a mostly younger crowd. It's Orthodox, though, and I don't know how you'd feel about that.

It all depends on what part of WW you go to. For instence I live in the Snohomish area, and alot of people are very nice and conservative here. As where Seattle is as others have said very very liberal and rude. Sorry to any librals who read this, I can't stand liberality.

I don't go to "Church", cause to me we are the Church. I meet with the brethren at homes every thursday and sunday. It is very very encouraging and much more biblical to me than any Church building meeting I have ever went to.
