• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't see how you can have cake and eat it too. how can u doubt God exists and go to heaven. It doesn't sound logical when you really truly don't know if he exists not deep down you know you believe. That is making me really really think I am going to hell because I don't have that deep down he is real just I can't know if he does or not. I believe now faith is given. Why wasnt some chosen.

Raven,

Would you allow me to pose a suggestion to you. Have you asked God to reveal Himself to you? Many doubters and skeptics came to know Christ by saying something along the lines of...

"God. I don't even know if You're there. But if You are, I really want to know You. Please let me know You."

In fact, I once heard a formerly staunch athiest's testimony, which went something like...

"God. I'm an athiest, so I know You don't exist. However, in my situation, I would really like to be wrong, though I'm pretty sure I'm not. But, on the off chance that You really are there..."

And you get the gist of it. In fact, God's Word would concur...

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. Proverbs 8:17

But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Isaiah 55:6

In fact, there are a plethora of verses (bible.cc/isaiah/55-6.htm).

God knows what you are going through, and He sympathizes.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Hebrews 4:15

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:13-14

Please pray to Him. God will draw near to those who earnestly seek Him. Ask Him to be so gracious as to reveal Himself to you. God loves all whom He has created, and I highly doubt I will find you to be the exception. He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, for us. Seek Him with all you have, even if it's next to nothing. Remember the widow giving the offering? God values the heart, not the quantity.

I pray God may give you the desperation and hunger needed to seek Him in spirit and in truth.

Then, quite sadly, they are deceived.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

As for the question of the chosen, my understanding is as follows. Now don't go calling this 100% true as this is only my current grasp. I'm still learning, and God forgive me should I be in error.

God has given all men free will which He doesn't impede upon by His sovereign will. Being God, He knows who will and who won't believe in His son for forgiveness and salvation. However, He is loving in that He gives everyone a chance, even the most stubborn. The ones that, by their own will and defiance, refuse to live according to the Truth, that is Christ, are the ones that won't make it. God could force faith upon them, but they wouldn't want it.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 1:4

I have heard that those who seek the truth find Him. In fact, I know of a testimony of a former atheist, who in his search for truth to disprove God, ended up finding his salvation in Jesus. In fact, I'm a science major in college. You would be surprised at the amount of garbage professors are willing to profess in order to avoid admitting that God may exist (and He does!). They'll see something so clearly and obviously designed by an Omniscient and wise Creator and brush it off as mere coincidence. Those who love lies (darkness) remain in it and will avoid the truth as it exposes their lies for what they are.

Whatever it may be, we know this. That God is loving, just and merciful. He gives salvation freely to whomever choose to believe. We don't deserve anything, yet He would love us so much. I know for one that I am a wretch apart from Him. I don't question His love.
