..because we don't have any laurels to rest upon:
1 Corinthians 4:7
For who makes you to differ from another? and what have you that you did not receive? now if you did receive it, why do you glory, as if you had not received it?
Some feel that they can rest when they've done enough for God, but we are running a race. The good works we are doing are part of the reason we were created:
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
We find our rest not in doing enough for God, but by abiding in Him to whom all the laurels belong:
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest
