• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

don't laugh please

I'm very sorry to hear that. As addictions go, computer related ones might not be as physically dangerous as drugs and so on, but it can certainly be just as debilitating as anything from a mental and social point of view.

In what way are you addicted? Do you ignore doing things to spend time at the computer? Do you think about computer related stuff all the time? Is it talking to other people online that you like?

What I believe is needed to break the addiction is to pray to God for strength. The realization that you can't do it alone is a vital step. You also need to find a reason why to stop being at the computer. It could be anything from family to simply not wanting to waste time.

Then you should cut down on the time spent at your computer. I'd suggest you prioritize things in your life, and put computer stuff at the lowest possible rank. If this doesn't work, you might want to consider ditching the computer completely for a while.

Set goals for how much time to spend at the computer per day. If you have a lot of free time, try finding other things to do. Once you start getting your mind off the computer, it will only get easier. Don't hesitate to ask for help. An accountability partner is never a bad idea.

Addictions are NOT to be laughed at!

I swear I have a computer addiction, too.

It's not funny, but it seems that people don't think you can get addicted to things other than the big four: gambling, drugs, booze and cigarettes.

I have a short attention span, though, so I tend to walk away from it - so this means I get away with it just a little bit, but I really should be concentrating more on my university work.

When ideal conditions exist, it's easy to get addicted to just about anything; a good thing or not. Question is, does the time you spend on__ interfere with other activities/responsibilities/time with your loved ones? Has anyone complained about it?

I've heard that some people can be prone to developing addictions more than others.. they apparently have an "addictive personality" or something.. i wonder if that's true or if it bolox...

to answer your question.. YES YES and YES! :sigh:

the time is spend on the computer is interferring with EVERYTHING else in my life :( ... I'm eating meals at the computer.. I'm not doing as much housework as I feel I should.. I'm spending less time with people.. I know its bad.. but its soo hard to stop!! :help:

It's like going on the computer (particularly CF) gives me a rush.. kinda a high.. its an escape for me.. i don't know why.. ?

how about making your time here a ministry. search out new people to welcome. bless others by being an encourager. bear fruit by what you do while you are here. make your time here a fruitful exsperiance. and make your time away from the computer a fruitful exsperiance.

sometimes when we are drawn to something, we can use it to bless others. it will help you with the time you spend here and it will help your time away too.

each of us have spititual gifts. you can use your time here and online to exsplore this part of your life. use the time you're drawn online to grow and encourage others to grow.

thanks Dee! thats awesome!!
I actually do try to do that. I've set up a Depression Support thread in the mental health section and an alternatives to suicide thread also. I help quite a few ppl on here who are suicidal/depressed. It's a real blessing and honour to help others. I love it. :)
