No im not walking in sin, I dont think. I mean everybody sins, the only thing we can do is try not to, and thats what I do.
To "walk in sin" means to be consistently and comfortably engaging in it. If this doesn't describe you, then you aren't walking in sin.
Yes, everybody sins, but as you grow older as a Christian, the times that you sin should become more and more infrequent. Sin should not be a way of life for the Christian.
You, that is your Self, cannot live the way God desires. Your Self can only produce more if Itself. Self produces the very worst of things: hatred, lust, envy, strife - basically all the wicked stuff people do. Self is "not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be," the apostle Paul tells us in the 8th chapter of Romans. It is because this is so, because Self cannot produce anything truly godly, that God put Self to death on Christ's cross. See, God doesn't want to make Self better; He isn't trying to strengthen Self. His solution to Self and its corruptness was to put it to death. In its place, God has given each of His children a New Nature that springs out of God's Spirit dwelling inside them.
I say all this to explain that when a Christian says they are "trying" to obey God, they reveal a basic misunderstanding about how being a Christian works. God does
His work in us and through us. But it is
His work. Paul puts it this way,
"For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure." (Phil. 2:13) In other words, God gives you both
the desire and the ability to do His will. God doesn't expect you to muster up from within yourself the desire to do what He wants. And He certainly doesn't expect you to try in your own strength to do what only He can do. Instead, our job (if you can call it that) most of the time is to get out of His way and let Him do as He wishes with us. Even doing this is something God makes possible.
If you don't have this deep-seated desire to walk with God, then it is either sin smothering that desire or an absence of genuine spiritual life. Many people think because they prayed a prayer and go to church, that they are saved. Neither of these things saves, however. It isn't doing things that saves; it is being in an intimate relationship with the Saviour, Jesus Christ, that brings a person into the New Life. The righteous living that characterizes a true Christian
comes out of a relationship with Christ; it isn't the cause of a relationship with him.
But I ask god every night to forgive me of my sins that day, and yes I mean it with all of my heart. And yes I have asked jesus into my life. But still nothing.
What would "something" be? What are you looking for from God? What must He do to make Himself real to you - I mean apart from creating the Universe, and sending His Only Son to die on a cross for you...
Peace.
