Why are we exhorted not to do this?

I'm taking it that this does NOT mean preaching from the scriptures. Nor in this case is it to do with forecasting the future.

It has a supernatural or charismatic dimension and is to do with telling forth God's mind for a particular situation.

Any ideas why the early Christians were doing some despising?

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.


Jms 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
