  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I hope yall are donating. If all you gave was 20 dollars, that would be enough for 20 sacks of potatoes, or a pack of chicks, and if EVERYONE Donates at least 20 dollars, then that adds up to thousands if not millions of dollars. in this country, I find it VERY hard to believe that someone doesn't have 20 dollars to spare.

which isn't to say you shouldn't donate MORE then 20 dollars, but whatever. it's your money.

donate what for?
the key of NT giving is noit giving by itself but why and how.
how to give is by a cheefull hart, not after a spich like yours.
and why is to who, for what reason or porpouse.
not giving at all -if it is not needed - is as much christian as given when there is a need.

Yes. It is called TAXES. It is the LAW

certainly, give taxes to the government you have to do that and it's biblical too. But I meant give to charity's that feed the starving and put roofs over the homeless, your tax dollars do that too i suppose but it's not enough to just give taxes.

where in the Bible did you read that christians has to care for situations as starving people or homeless? every person, christian or not has the right to give where he likes more. actually, christians are expected to make a good use of the money and do not throw it away giving to such situations.

I don't consider giving to the homeless, the destitute, the poor and tragedy stricken Being a poor steward of God's money......Remember that we only have the use of these resources while we are here on earth and we will be held accountable for our benevolence to our fellow man..........Think of how you would like to be treated when you are down and out...............God Bless you and all who read this thread...........Dave

Human - I am talking of the natural human - has a condition only common to very few superior mamals. Humans and very few mammals has the capacity to help the next. humans of the world - not chirstians - have the capacity of imagining how it would be if something very bad happens to me. Then, they realiced that as they shall like to recieve help, they are moved into help aswell. That is your point when you say "think on how you like to be trated..." That is natural thot of a human. That is not a teaching of Christ.

And yes, we have to be good stewards and not give away the money in caring for people in help. Do God want us to help the japaneses? Wasnt more easy not to send a earthquake in first place. Poverty, sikness, violence and product of the sin of the world. We are not call to cure the concecuences of the sin but to attack the sin with the redemption on Christ.

goinheix, if you see someone who needs help, do you help them? I'm not talking about donating, i mean if you saw someone on the side of the road and they had a flat would you pull over and assist them in changing their tire? stuff like that, are you charitable?

you seem to think that donating isn't doing charitable things for people, when really, it's no different. people need help and by donating, it's like your helping them change their tire. only instead of having a tire that needs changing, they have no food or shelter.

The next is totaly personal; is not doctrinal but a personal testimony.

Yes I do. All the time. Not exactly to change a tire. Pushing a trak its enough. The problem is that I was helping people from early age, way before becoming christian. I grew up reading super-heroes.

Few day ago I told a man doing line in a supermarket: "this is a line for a max 5 items". My intention was helping him in not making the wrong line. He understood that I was expulsing him in order to make the line one man shorted. Nothing makes me more happy than somebody asking me for directions. Sometimes I walk many blocks to show the place or street.

But as I say; I am helping people since before being christian. I am 56, christian since 17.

Good point. You and me are saying the same. Donating money is not something christian but human, like changing a tire. There is not a single verse in the Bible that tels me to help somebody to change a tire; neither to donate money. It is a mundane issue.

No we're on a different page, I'm saying Donating is something God said we had to do, but we should do it becuase we want to, not becuase we have to.

Helping people to change a tire is the same as donating. I thot you was actually meaning your ouw words.
Anyhow Where do you read that "donating is sometyhing God said we had to do"? We are not talking about donate but about donating. I can change one tire, but I dint go on the street changing tires. I can do a donation, or two or ttree of ten, but I dont live donating. Where in the Bible?

I think you are getting too wrapped up in the tire thing it goes for any service of love that we give to our fellow man you are not correct when you think that we as Christiens ought not give to or help non Christians ........How else do you suppose the missionaries of old and also of today help the lost and down trodden the hungry and the ill and afflicted the battle worn and the persecuted ?? No we must give, for Jesus said that we should not only give our shirt but our coat as well..........God Bless You Goinheix and all others who express their opinions on this thread........Dave:wave:

When Jesus say to give not only the shirt but also our coat, he is teaching something absolutely different from giving, donating and tithing. Dont get others brother confused. Jesus never did teach to help other humans. In all the Nt there is not such teaching. It is a human feeling to help the next in need; and it was incorporated to the christians as a christian doctrine. It is not. Giving, helping is a human activitity, is from the flesh, is not biblical and is not doctrine.

Does not matter if it is changing a tire, feeding hungry, asisting sick, giving shelter to war victism, providing a home for orphans, or any other humanitarian action. Those are only hmanitarian actions. They have nothing at all to do with christian doctrine, with the Bible, or with God.

God is not asking us to do so; the Bible gives as not support for that activity, and definatly is not part at all of christian life. And by no way it is the core of christian life.

It is the core of church life. Churches and pastor exist after the giving. With no giving as a doctrine (false doctrine) the chiurches will close doors and the pastor found unemployed. That is why it os the core for the church. That is why churches have humanitarian services, to justify the asking-giving doctrine.

But the Church, the real Church of Christ, will never close doors, because we the church are not a building, are not a organization with acounters and financial departments. We the real Church will continue to spread the Gospel, not being distracted with humanitarians activities. Let the died buried it dieds. Do not engage in other activity than your main porpouse. Dont you read that in your Bible?

Thanks very much. Now it is clear that christians has to give when they are confronted with a specific need, specially with the need of another christian. Christians do not have giving as part of the life but must eventually give in front of a need.

Romans 12:13 say it clearly "God´s people that are in need" And the example of how it is done comes in 2 Corintians. They did a special colect for a special need, of the CHRISTIANS at Jerusalem for a short time only. And they did it not by compulsion but cheerful. Because it is more blessed to give than to recieve. The christian giver will recieve more spiritual grow than the one recieving. That is the key when giving to another christian that is going for a bad moment.

We have to remember that "if a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day", we shal help him/her. We must give when that situation is infront of us.

It was very enlighting that being so many verses concerning giving to christians on need, there is not even one saying that we must live giving to help the needed from the world.

If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. (Matthew 5:40)
And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. (Matthew 5:41)
Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you. (Matthew 5:42)
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ (Matthew 5:43)
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (Matthew 5:44)
In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. (Matthew 5:45)
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? (Matthew 5:46)
If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. (Matthew 5:47)

Thanks jaks
Those christians asking for tithe, ofrends, donations etc. have developed an arsenal or verses that use to take out of context and make them say something are not saying. They do so because there is an absolute lack of biblical support for what they are trying to tels us. unfortunately, many christians are desieved for those false teachers and give away the money God give them to do a good stewrship.

Until Now I have never been taught or told that I should only give to help My Christian brothers and sisters.............and not give to the heathen or the unsaved as You are trying to get me to swallow............I will only debate with You on this one last time as I would like to here from You regarding the two recorded times that Jesus Himself fed the Hungry Multitudes with a few loaves and a few small fishes.......I await your reply regarding the benevolence of Christ.........Dave:wave:
