  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have something close. Actually, their breeding is interconnected. I have a Great Dane. ^.^ He's probably 100-110cms if you measure to the top of his head.

Mine is 10 years old and actually going to the vet today. I'm nervous for him. He's loosing weight in his hip area, and recently (past 2 weeks or so) he's been having trouble making it outside to use the bathroom and he's not always waking up to go as much either. And he's got another lump on his chest that we want looked at too. Oh, and the growths on his gums have to be removed again. It'll be his 3rd surgery for the gums. They just keep overgrowing and if we let it go it'd grow over his teeth.

Well, I hope he's doing alright. My Dad decided he couldn't wait until Sat for me. I wanted to be there, but I trust that it needed to be done sooner. I'm still worried. I know 10 is good for a dane. I'm going to try not to fall apart if the news isn't good from the vet.

I called my Dad.

He said this vet wanted to do too much and all he wanted to do was get the gums fixed. I'm annoyed that Dad didn't want those tests run because I for one would like to know what's going on. Of course, this time I wouldn't have been able to cover it ($500)because I had some car repairs a few months ago that were a little much. So, I can't argue too much. He's taking Cody to another vet soon, but it's a vet I'm not fond of (long story). *sigh*

I'm definitely going this time. There is no way my Dad is going to make me sit out another one, even if it is with the annoying vet.

A friend of mine had an Irish Wolfhound/ German Shepherd. Because he was so large he looked scarey but was very friendly. He only lived to 7 or 8 because he had cancer and had hip problems. The larger the dog the shorter the life span. I hpoe your dog is going to be ok.
Its sapose to get up to 8 years old.

what did the vet want to do?

It was my Dad who went. And that means because it was cost prohibitive it was also shortly discounted as rubish. He couldn't remember what the tests were. I'm definitely going to the vet with him next time. They talked me out of it this time, but next time they won't.
