Your call.
Agreed! It is a definitely a very personal decision. Some people really can not deal with raw meat, I think I would have been very nervous to try it on my own, but my vet was really supportive, so that encouraged me. I've read some conflicting things about processed bone meal, so that was one thing that put me off on the cooked diet, but I didn't really do enough research to know specifically. Also, for me, it would be more work to cook and then grind everything up. I have three large dogs, and that adds up to a lot of food. Also I found when I gave them the pre-made ground raw they would just gobble it down and then act really hungry. When they chew for longer they seem to be more satisfied with less food. Most days just give them whole sections of things. (Chicken carcass, beef necks, whole fish, etc.) (I grind the veggies w/ organ meat and add the supplements, oils, etc. for meals about 3-5 times per week times per week)
But I totally understand all the reasons that people don't feed this way. That's why I think its so great when someone can find a vet (preferably one that has actually studied animal nutrition- which most vets have not) that really can help them figuring this out. It can be daunting at first, so many different opinions.
I also totally agree that the food supply is very different than what was available in the wild 100 years ago. I buy as much as I possibly can (for self and doggies) organic and free-range meats and vegetables from local farmers. Not the same, but makes me feel better.
