  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering...is spaying/neutering wrong? It just seems so unnatural to remove parts of the reproductive organ. Even though the Bible doesn't say anything about that, would God find it as a bad idea? People tell us that we should get our dog neutered, but my parents find it freaky.

Do dogs dream? Sometimes when my dog sleeps, he starts "drinking". There was this other time where the pads of his feet were moving, and his tail was wagging. There was also this time where he started blinking and twitching his nose, even though he was asleep. That's so cute!!!

I have a chihuahua, but in the future I want to get a large dog. I was wondering, can large dogs hold their bladder for a long time when they are full grown?

Actually it is better for your animals health if you have it spay/neutered because it decreases there chance for cancer if done before they are a year old. I was told by my vet that if I had my female done before she was a year old. Also dogs do dream when you see it kicking in the air or something like that it is probably dreaming of running or chasing something. It is very cute. Large dogs can do pretty good at holding it as long as they are trained right from the begining. Little dogs can too though. My family also has a chihuahua and she can hold it for several hours but we have a crate that we lock her up in everytime we leave. If you have any more questions just ask, I am pretty full of knowledge when it comes to dogs from working in a vet office for a few years.

I agree, it's healthier for your pet if you have them "fixed", but also cuts down on un-wanted pets!!

As for dreaming, we have a Boston & she dreams all the time, sometimes she even barks in her dreams!! But if it sounds like she's having a bad dream, I'll wake her up by kissing on her & petting her...I hate thinking she's having an unhappy dream!! (isn't that crazy?)

And as far as holding her bladder, she weighs a little under 25 lbs., and she can go quite awhile without having to go outside. I guess it depends on how you train them when they're young!

Thanks, maybe I should get my dog neutered. Also, I don't know anything much abut deworming, does my dog need that done often? He's had deworming 3 times I think, while he was with the seller. The seller also indicated that he won't need his rabies shots yet, when's the best time to get it? He's 12 weeks old tomorrow.

I want to be a vet when I grow up, so I was wondering...does anyone know whether or not vets are allowed to keep pets in their office? It would be really fun to bring a dog to work. :)

If you have your dog on heartworm pills (which is a VERY good idea) the heartworm medicine will usually take care of any other worms your dog might have. This was explained to me by my vet after I questioned him about the matter.

I would say that if is a private practice, than yes. Otherwise it would be up to the veternary hospital policy. My vet (he is in private practice) has his cat and his boston terrier at the office. They are spoiled rotten by his clients :D I always bring a doggie cookie for the pup. The cat usually lords over his "domain" and really isn't that cuddly.

I agree with Myah. The one that I use to work for had a cat the lived in the clinic and he was spoiled rotten by the people that came in there and he always is teasing the dogs. He would walk around in front of the dogs just out of reach to torture them. He would also jump out around this one corner at certain people that work there just to scare them. He is the funniest cat.

You should take your puppy to the vet a.s.a.p. just to make sure he is healthy (especially if you have a health gaurantee), at that time the vet should give you heartworm medicine, and a schedule of when your puppy needs shots.

Thank you guys for the info!

Just curious, do your dogs like kibble? Mine despises his Purina Puppy Chow. Most of the time, when we try to put just one in his mouth, he would go a bit farther from us and then spit it out. It's so cute how he thought he got away with that. My mom actually has to make him rice with unsalted ground meat; she also gives him some beans sometimes. My dog is such a picky eater, ahh just like when I was younger. :)

I feed my dogs Kibbles and Bits. It's not plain (and they are picky eaters) plus it has all different kinds of tastes in it. Bits, my sheltie picks out the cheesy soft bits and eats those, my other sheltie picks out the cheesies and the little bones, and my mutt (who will eat ANYTHING including Sauerkraut) eats the rest :)
