My brother-in-law's poor nice black Lab got nailed by a skunk. He called his Mom to see what he could do for her, and she said to go to the local Walmart and get a case of the Massengill vinegar and water ph whatever feminine douche and soak it up all over the dog.

Oh my gosh it worked! He did buy a case of it, took her to the backyard, drenched her in it, then washed her off with a hose and she was fine! No smell, no mess.

Who would ever think anything like this would work?

Truth is stranger than fiction!

Fascinating!

I’ve heard that hydrogen peroxide also works. Skunk scent results from thiols, which are sulfur-containing compounds. (Thiols are added to natural gas, so that leaks can be detected.) Strong oxidizing agents, like H2O2 alter the sulfhydryl groups and will eliminate the odor.
