Dog Question... Help...

I have a quick question for those dog owners out there... I have a wonderful Black lab, 9 years old... She has been fine all these years... Yet today, it was noticed that her left ear is... bloated like... And I mean today it happened... She was fine yesterday...
The wierd thing is, it doesn't seem to bother her...

She will be going to the vet tomorrow, but it worries me as we have to kennel her for the weekend do to out of town stuff...

The vet hasn't seen her yet, but from what he heard he said she might have broke blood vessels in her ear and need surgery...

Does anyone think they know what this is or seen something similar?
Please let me know asap... She's really a special dog to me

Sounds like a hematoma, which is basically a blood vessel breaking and causing the ear to puff up. Happened to both of my cats once. Generally caused by the animal shaking his head too hard. Might want to have them do a good ear cleaning and check for mites since both of those things can cause a dog or cat to shake their head to hard. Really, the surgery is quick and easy. All they do is make a small incision in the bubble and drain the liquid out. The vet may choose to put a tube in it to allow for drainage if he believes it might puff up again. Usually comes out in a week or two. Shouldn't be too many complications, however since she is nine years old, you may want to opt for extra blood work before she gets put under to make sure there won't be complications related to the anesthesia.

I'm sure your dog has been to the vet by now, how did it go? I used to have a dog that was bit by a spider and she swelled up like a toad; she had an alergic reaction.
How's your doggie now?

Black Labs have so many things that can go wrong with them. My balack Lab has arthrites in her leg all you can really do is just love it stay close and make sure your dog nows you love it. Shawn

Dagna wrote what it likely could be. Some years ago one of my Shelties developed that problem virtually overnight. Her ear filled with fluid. The veterinarian lanced the ear and I tried to keep the fluid drained out. Finally her ear had to be sewed together flat against x-ray film. Horrid but it did the trick. Her ear didn't tip forward quite right after that though. My friend's black Labrador just had a similar procedure done, but a series of buttons were sewed to her ear. Eeeek--!
