The recent Reduction in Force (RIF) at the Department of Education, which targeted the special education office, was part of a pre-existing plan by the administration, although the timing coincided with the government shutdown.
I hope people realize that the goal from this administration is to completely eliminate the DOE .

Over the past 50 years, candidates have frequently announced intentions to reduce government spending and cut social assistance programs. However, upon taking office, many did not implement these reductions after recognizing the significance of such programs for Americans. Consequently, many individuals view these campaign promises as unlikely to be fulfilled.

Now, President Trump is fulfilling his promise by cutting these programs. Voters will experience firsthand the results of policies they've supported for decades, which may help them understand which policies truly matter.

While many on the left view President Trump fulfilling his promises as negative, I believe it signifies a brighter future. America will finally see Republican campaign promises put into action—such as ending free trade, imposing tariffs, getting tough on China, mass deportation, and reducing government programs. These policies will have tangible impacts, and after experiencing them, Americans may be better equipped to debate and decide the nation's direction beyond 2028.

In the US, healthcare is not a federal responsibility for all. The federal responsibility for the cost and choices regarding safety net programs for the weak and vulnerable have been expanding since !932 (under Democrats and Republicans). Some of our states have much larger economies that many countries. IMO, the swing toward more state responsibility is a good one.

State governments can decide to step into the breach during a shutdown (many have). Also, states can decided what social programs to support.

TO BE CLEAR
I strongly favor the federal government shifting monies from rich to poor states so that poor states can better serve their citizens. But the federal cost of administration should be reduced by literally hundreds of thousands of employees. The issue is which departments should be reduced, which should be eliminated and which should be expanded. Then the departments can make the cuts. As with any enterprise, there should be efforts to be more efficient. Of course, Trump has no such interest. He wants to disable the federal government instead of making it work better.

When Clinton/Gore eliminated 360K federal jobs (with Gingritch holding their feet to the fire) there was little uproar and few (if any) legal fights. We need to move again to a revenue sharing approach to social programs (other than Social Security and Medicare). The feds collect the money and send ti to the states and local governments, where decisions can be better made.

These efforts should also be made within the Homeland Security and Defense. but that won't come until Senators want it to happen.

Democrats are down to one issue on a short-term CR, the extension of Obamacare subsidies. Of course, they will do this again in a couple of months over the Medicaid subsidies to states.

Voters are currently receiving the cost of their options with very large increases in cost. Either Republican voters will convince Trump to make the one paragraph change or not. If NOT, at least 5 Democrats will likely fold by the end of next week.
