No that's not selfish at all. It's the most selfless thing ever done. It shoes how much He loves us. Would you let your son die for someone? Most of us wouldn't because we don't possess that kind of love in us. That fact that Jesus died for us is a glorious thing. He loves us that much. That's just amazing.

Why His Son? Why not himself?

Why His Son? Why not himself?

He technically did send himself down here. Jesus is 100% God and 100% Man. Jesus is God in human form. Just he is portrayed as the Son of the three persons in the Divine Trinity. So he technically sent himself to die for us, but also as the Son. It's hard us humans to grasp the understanding of the Trinity but it is what it is. So its a selfless act. To add to that, Jesus wanted to die for us.

Some people use it out of respect for God's name. So rather than "God", they use "G-d" to remind themselves of God's holiness. The Israelites did the same thing.

Ahh. I didn't know that. How does taking out the o give Him more respect?

To understand the history behind that (not intentionally de-railing...), the Israelites were so intent on respecting God's holy name that the exact pronunciation of his name (as their language doesn't really have vowels) has been lost. All we know are the transliteration "YHVH" and that it may be "Yahweh." But, the point was that they wouldn't speak that name so as not to break the commandments which said not to use God's name in vain.

Meanwhile, post-Christ, there's really no reason to do anything like that beyond personal choice (perhaps if it helps you as it did the ancient Jews?).

But to respond to the OP, The Bible says that "In the Beginning was the Word (an ancient nick-name for Jesus) and the Word was with God and the Word was God,...,which became flesh for us." So in this bit from John 1, we learn that:
  1. Jesus was in "The Beginning"
  2. Jesus was with God in "The Beginning"
  3. Jesus was (is, and will be) God
  4. Jesus was God made flesh for us
So when God sent his only begotten Son, that can be understood as "The Father sent the Son," but He is co-eternal and co-existent with the Father. "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form" (Col. 2:9, NASB).
Jesus = God in flesh.

His name isn't even "God" anyway. Just saying. Taking the 'o' out of "God" is not a bad thing, it's a sign of respect among many.

I'm very confused, how does taking out a letter in a word give that being more respect? For example if I were to take out all the s's in Mississippi, does that respect the state more?

Forgive me, I'm just confused and curious.

Generally speaking, it's a Judaic tradition. It's simply a means of showing more reverence or respect to the name. It doesn't apply to really anything else. It's just a way that some people choose to show more respect for his name. (for the same reason, it is spelled YHWH or YHVH instead of using the vowels. Another way of showing respect and reverence). Hopefully that makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion lol.

Thanks for clarifying. I like to make sure I capitalize all the words concerning God and Jesus. All the Him's and He's. I like capitalizing those because He deserves to be captitalized and respected.

The others above are correct about Jesus being human and God,but one important thing missing which I think will answer your question, is that most parents cherish their child more than they love themselves. A parent would take a bullet for his child before seeing them killed. Jesus' death was the ultimate sacrifice because here is God sacrificing His only son and here is Jesus dying a terrible death. Something I sometimes forget is that the person dying on the cross was no mere human, it was God.
