It does not say:It does.
Because they will be counted among the lawless.
His instruction to buy a sword was not a call to violence or rebellion, but a sober reminder that they were entering a dangerous and uncertain timeIt’s part of the verse. Jesus tells the disciples to, if necessary, sell their cloaks to buy the sword.
It was not a call to violence and no where did I argued that. They were indeed entering an uncertain and dangerous time which parallels the reason why we carry a firearm for protection these days. His instruction to buy a sword was not a call to violence or rebellion, but a sober reminder that they were entering a dangerous and uncertain time
What do you think being counted among wrong doers mean?It does not say:
It means what it says, but it does not say, "Because they will be counted among the lawless." or "wrongdoers" if you prefer. What do you think being counted among wrong doers mean?
But that is literally what the verse says. I’m not sure where you are going with this.It means what it says, but it does not say, "Because they will be counted among the lawless." or "wrongdoers" if you prefer.
Here's a hint....But that is literally what the verse says. I’m not sure where you are going with this.
Also, Jesus rebuked Peter for using his sword!!! In the garden remember! It was not a call to violence and no where did I argued that. They were indeed entering an uncertain and dangerous time which parallels the reason why we carry a firearm for protection these days.
Luke 22:36Personally I believe that any and all "carry" makes us less safe, and I think that all those who read the Gospels with an open heart and mind would heed Jesus' message about non-violence.
Exactly. Apparently, pronouns are a stumbling block to some. Here's a hint....
Isaiah 53:12
Therefore, will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
yeah and all of us must sell our Chevys and drive Hondas because the Apostles were in one Accord.Luke 22:36
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
“And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his cloak and buy one.”

The apostles open carried.
More guns equals more deaths. But ‘money’ so the deaths will continue. Those who say that open carry of guns causes no problems should consider something that happened in Jacksonville, FL, last December. Deputies pulled a man over and ordered him out of the car. He had a gun in a holster. The Deputies decided that was legal. (I’m not so sure.) Still, they did not want to talk to an armed man at a traffic stop. One Deputy tried to lift the gun out of the holster. Maybe it was a tight fit, and did not come out easily. Deputy Mindy Cardwell wound up shooting driver Jason Arrington in the leg with his own gun.
We are told that Deputy Cardwell was dismissed, at least as a patrol Deputy, although she is still working part time for the Sheriff’s Department.
A source very friendly to guns warns us that “criminals do not fear guns—they seek them.” Open carry of a firearm can attract criminals who want to steal the gun.

lol I never made an argument that the apostles were armed to the teeth and my comment about the apostles open carry was in jest. If you want my actual opinion regarding this thread then please read my post 2.I have noticed that when gun advocates refer to the Bible, they assume that a sword is equivalent to a gun. Yet a gun kills at a distance. A sword does not kill at a distance. A gun can have an accidental misfire. A sword cannot have accidents of that sort. People have been killed by the famous "unloaded gun." That doesn't happen with a sword either.
Hentenze: "The Apostles open carried."
This is highly misleading. There was no police department at that time, in the sense that we have today. Actually, the Gospels say that Jesus and the Apostles only had two swords among them. Two swords for thirteen men is NOT armed to the teeth.
I also have noticed that when anti gun advocates refer to the Bible they ignore all admonitions to protect your own (as in family). In today’s environment that might be a little hard with a sword. Just recently there was a case in SC where an attacker with a hatchet was thwarted and held at gun point until he was arrested. It would have been within rights for potential victim to have killed the purp but in this case it was not necessary. Had the victim not had a concealed weapon we would be having a different story line. Self protection is a God given right and a legal constitutionally guaranteed right. All of the anti gun rhetoric using scripture is misleading and misguided.I have noticed that when gun advocates refer to the Bible, they assume that a sword is equivalent to a gun. About the same relevance as trying to prooftext Jesus' words in Luke to be about "open carry" in the USA.Cute, but irrelevant.
If the police were here for my good (or your good), that statement might carry some weight. There was no police department at that time, in the sense that we have today.
