Does one hate their own country if they criticize it? What makes one person's criticism patriotic and the other hateful? There seems to be a group that calls any criticism of the current government hateful, yet when these same people criticized the government as little as 4 years ago, they considered themselves patriots. Can you anyone explain this without exposing the abject hypocrisy of this attitude?

They are on the winning side, and can make the rules.

I personally would find “constructive criticism” of one’s country with intent to improve things, patriotic, while “destructive criticism” designed to bring it down, less so, but determining the intent and difference can be difficult, especially in these extremely polarized times.

Remember Trump's inaugural speech about "American carnage"? Yeah, it's A-OK to find America to be less than perfect if you are a Republican. If you are a Democrat you better shape up and get on your knees to worship the flag.

Elected members of Congress are considered vile people and need to "go back" to their countries.

These are fine people:

In the British parliamentary system there is the tradition of the loyal opposition.

But Trump probably can't find Britain on a map.

I have little doubt that Trump has zero understanding of anything so subtle as a concept like "the loyal opposition".

Such a feat would require a government of modern-day Solomons with knowledge and perspicacity to spare.

Not exactly what we have today.

I bet some posters feel trump is vile and wished he would leave
I wish he would step down before he gets worse.

I had a Step-grandfather who at the end of his life lost all his filters and would say the most racist things, even to his wife. Trump is showing the early signs of the same mental slide to me. He should stop before he goes to far and can't stop himself.

No.

What baffles me is the conspiracies of a shadow government choosing who is in office and in power automatically stops with Trump. Somehow he is different than all other well-connected, "elite" presidents, and yet the conspiracy of a shadow government still remains. Except, now this government is against Trump and his supporters (aka "Patriots").

I am not going to comment of the validity of said conspiracies, but I am just saying be consistent.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to criticize the United States and its current administration. I think that criticism is well deserved and I honestly don't care if conservative Trump supporters like it or not.

Freedom of speech is the backbone of the American spirit unless of course it’s the opposition doing it then it’s anti-American.

Trump has been very popular with white supremacists. They're no longer hiding their identities behind white robes and white hoods. They just come right out in the open to support and praise him.
