CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Irene, I am more concerned about people who are like Hitler, touched by madness but without having already sunken into such evil. I read a good biography of Hitler once, and it did not depict the young Hitler to be so thoroughly evil. He actually had some pretty good things to him, for instance he loved his mother and nursed her when she got cancer. If he would have had a real friend, for example a committed christian, who had loved him and taught him some things, who knows how differently history may have turned out.

sure, but one could say the opposite about mother teresa (th? sp? no telling). If she had NOT had the influences she had or had a friend who was not above the board that was close could she have been different...??? idk. Supposition and should haves and hope sos don't make much difference. Sometimes you cannot help mental illness with friendship. Depends on how bad it is. For example, borderline personality disorder is considered non curable and is frankly a pretty good example of someone who would be like the kind you're worried about. I'm not sure that good friends in Christ can fix that or even mitigate it.
