  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does it even mean anything to be a 'Calvinist'?

Due to that we need to qualify what it is we believe or we can give peope false impressions that can cause them to make mistakes.

Which I think bears back to my OP: does the word 'Calvinist' bear a satisfactory meaning to today's hearers? I realize telling someone 4,000 pages of doctrinal position usually does not cut it, so there must be some way to communicate something.

Perhaps I am wandering off into the abyss of relative semantics.

Today "Calvinist" just means you believe TULIP soteriology, but not necessarily all of it. It is best understood that one believes regeneration preceeds faith if he is a "Calvinist" in our modern vernacular.

That encompasses a diverse horde of people.

I like to break it down this way...

/QUOTE]

I am just one of those monergists, I guess. :DSigh. Can't do anything about it, either.

Why would God build a bridge that goes only 90% of the way across an infinite chasm, anyway? Or is that just a cheap shot at synergists?

I remember a few months back Mark Driscoll ruffled Johnny Mac's feathers by proclaiming he loved to quaff English and imported beers, lol.

The Grace to You Blog was blown up with outrage over Driscoll's "Young, restless, and Reformed" rebels.
