  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

does anyone know if Hank Hanegraaf the "Bible Answer Man" knows any of the original Biblical languages?

tnx,
Hi. The best way to find out is go to the original hebrew/greek and compare his translation/interpretation to those. I read a lot of the Bible with an interlinear to help me learn those 2 languages:

http://www.scripture4all.org/

This site has the 3 main greek texts most Bible versions use for their translations and remember the greek words all ran together with NO SEPERATION.

http://www.olivetree.com/cgi-bin/EnglishBible.htm

Here is one example, and what I do is copy/paste them to Wordpad and compare them for "inconsistances"

Reve 13:3 And one, out of the heads/f of it/n, as having been slaughtered/esfagmenhn <4969> (5772)F into death, and the blow/stripe/plhgh <4127> of the death of it was healed, and marvels whole the land behind of the wild-beast.

(Greek NT - Byz./Maj.) Revelation 13:3 kai mian ek twn kefalwn autou wsei esfagmenhn eiV qanaton kai h plhgh tou qanatou autou eqerapeuqh kai eqaumasen olh h gh opisw tou qhriou

(Greek NT - W-H ) Revelation 13:3 kai mian ek twn kefalwn autou wV esfagmenhn eiV qanaton kai h plhgh tou qanatou autou eqerapeuqh kai eqaumasqh olh h gh opisw tou qhriou

(Greek NT - Textus Rec.) Revelation 13:3 kai eidon mian twn kefalwn autou wV esfagmenhn eiV qanaton kai h plhgh tou qanatou autou eqerapeuqh kai eqaumasqh en olh th gh opisw tou qhriou

tnx,
It's hard to discern what Hank knows. To my knowledge, he has no formal theological education under his belt. That said, anyone can sign up for a biblical languages course or even engage in self study through a variety of learn-at-home materials. As a Pastor, I'm all for formal education, but schooling isn't everything. Such a man must be judged by the content of his teaching, and for the most part, Hank seems to be a fair minded, biblically responsible exegete. It would not surprise me if he had studied Hebrew and Greek, though I cannot affirm as much.
