  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think He cares a lot more whether we are playing the games than cheating at them. If it's fine to play, it is fine to cheat.

From the human gamer's perspective, cheating is a fine way to deprive yourself of a lot of enjoyment of that game. No challenge, less fun.

It really would depend on your definition of cheating.

If you use a code to make the game harder, is that really cheating?

If you use a code that allows you to access a world that is impossible to access any other way, is that really cheating?

Things like the two I stated above isn't really cheating. It just makes the game more enjoyable. If you, say, give yourself infinate lives or unlimited health, that is cheating.

Define "cheating".

Are you talking about using cheat codes in single player games?

Of course there's nothing wrong with that. The developers put then in there for one reason or another. I think they can make things more fun sometimes. Of course you won't get the satisfaction of beating the game by skill alone, but every once in a while it's nice to have some extra health, powers, gold, etc...

On the other hand if you're talking about cheating at a game you're playing with someone else, well, no, I don't think that's fair. I'm not sure how exactly you'd go about cheating, but still.

I think God does care.
I think it's a character issue.

It's easy to just cheat and get past something. But you should try your patience and work it out as best you can.

Now some games seem to be nearly impossible in hopes that you will call that 1-900 number or buy the guide.
But still, you should have that mentality that cheating is the last option.

And as far as competition goes, I think it's a sin to cheat. In fact, I know it's a sin to cheat.

Exactly, playing games on less than "medium" difficulty makes baby Jesus cry.;)

Seriously though. Its defintely wrong if you cheat in a multiplayer. Its the same cheating at a physical sport, game. In multiplayer games there are rules agreed to by all players to break while in single player you control the rules of the game.

'Cheating' on single player isn't a sin, although it can be bad, i.e. game gets too easy and hence boring, and what was said about showing lack of persevence/effort/avoidance of challenge i.e character issues. But making a game too easy on yourself isn't a sin as far as I know.

When I used to have a Gameshark, I just used it to play around with, since it had codes to change the music. And catch all the pokemon that weren't avalable in that version.

But a code that went bad screwed the GS up, though the game and GBA still worked just fine. I haven't gotten one since, but I plan to use one in my GC to play around with the Debug menu in SSBM.

So, I basically just use Gamesharks to do things that I couldn't do without it. I don't use it to get extra lives or unlimited health

I never said it was as sin, the question is "Does God care".
And He does.

If you cheat at online games you should be beat with a rubber hose.

As for if God cares..if it's single player, no. But if it's online...where you are interacting with other people then of course yes. You are suppose to be a witness...someone people look to and see Christ in...if you are cheating...how is that showing Christ in you? :)

The bible says when you do something, do it with all your heart.

In other words, try your best. It will do you good by testing your patience.

Now if you just want to mess around and have fun on invincibility, or unlimited amunition, that's a different story.

But if you're trying to beat a game. Do it with all your might.

I don't think God cares if we are using cheat codes I'm of course talking about single player games, in multiplayer your playing against another person and that I would be actually cheating. My view is if I'm paying between $30-$50 for a game I don't see anything wrong with easying up a little bit if the person needs as matter of fact it could be a sin not to use cheat codes if you get yourself stuck to the point you can't go on and endup not finishing the game then you have wasted money.

I think He cares. But like Sunstone said, it's a character issue. But then, it does depend on what is cheating. I recently got Doom 3 and found it to be totally unrealistic that a Marine was incapable of holding a flashlight in his left hand, across his right wrist to see where he is shooting. I mean, that's a common tactic in low-light situations.

I was getting really frustrated with it when I found the "Duct tape" mod which assumes that somewhere in a futuristic Martian base, there would be a roll of duct tape with which to tape your flashlight to your weapon.

Voila, you still have the oppressiveness and realism of power failures and low light but now your character is no longer too dumb to hold a flashlight and shoot at the same time. :D

On the other hand, I am cheating on my re-re-replay of System Shock 2 by summoning ammo simply because, I've played the game for years and it streamlines the game for me. I can focus on the story without having to search every nook and cranny for ammo since I've searched them all numerous times.

Cheating on single player is no big deal and if it doesn't ruin the experience for you, then go for it. Cheating on multiplayer is just wrong unless it's a cheat that is agreed upon by all players.

AHAHAHA, as if he cares. God has more to worry about than who is cheating on games and who is not lol. Can anyone like me see how funny this is?

I find it to be rather distrubing that people on this board think that God care whether or not you use a cheat code it's a sign of an unhealthy obession with video games and I would say you need to put down your control get some professional help.

Well I know god really doesnt mind about me cheating on my playstaion two or there would be something about it. And god said to his people "Thou shalt not gain extra credits on Black or bring more bullets, for this is the word of god". Look I think I know enough to know he has war, famine, depression, homeless to worry about, not me cheating on a game.
