Perhaps God partly created angels and humans so that they could one day worship him in Heaven... perhaps God being "holy" is a reason why this is ok... I'd like this justification to be explained in plain English...

...Honest debate about the nature of God and Christian Theology is allowed, but derogatory remarks are not....

So God's desire to be worshipped shouldn't be mocked, etc...

BTW in the video game "Black and White" the player can gain magical energy when people worship you or are sacrificed to you.

Well your in luck, 2 years ago or so I answered a question almost exactly like this on Christian Stack Exchange, today I was tyding up my hard drive, getting rid of lots of files I don't need and ran across it again.

Why does God desire glorification?

This is an answer I can only get to by “backwards engineering it” so to speak. But here it goes, we humans according to the Bible are “created in God’s image”. This concept however is understood in an abstract way, rather than a literal way (as Latter Day Saints and some Fundamentalist believe). Our being “created in God’s image” is generally thought of as that we are beings that are creative, sentient etc. But in terms of this topic, I would also include the need for relationship as part of that. If humans are a kind of microcosm of God (from being created in His Image) then the desire for adult humans to play with pets, talk to young children as being something similar to God and his relationship with us lower life forms.

In theology it also recognized that “God is love”, as the Gospel of John mentions. And this also motivates his various actions, even the existence of God as a Trinity (Rather than simple monotheism). (The Son and Holy Spirit eternally proceed from the Father who is the First Cause, but coequal with them.). Needless to say, that while Yahweh does not need anything (His name is supposed to mean “self-existent”), he does seem to desire companionship and relationship in a manner somewhat similar to human beings.

As to the specifics of “glorification” relating to the exact question, I see this as simply a desire for acknowledgement and appreciation for the things He has done, is doing. Etc. And is similar to the desire that we humans have to appreciated and not be taken for granted.

Yes, but not as a human would want to be. Humans who do so act out of incompleteness or insecurity. God has perfect completeness and security. I do not fully understand his motive for creating us and wanting a relationship with us, and therefore worship from us. I think part of that has to do with his loving and giving nature.

Based on that, I don't understand the following:
Exodus 34:14
"Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God."

I was under the impression that jealousy is based on insecurity.

We need to worship the true God & to worship Him, He says we must worship Him in spirit & truth. The Father seeks those who worship Him in spirit & truth. Worship is the product of salvation: seeking Him, being saved by Him & giving worth to Him, hallowing His Name.

A good prayer of consecration & cleansing, so that we might worship God in spirit & truth is this:

"Oh most merciful God, we have sinned against you in thought, word & deed, by what we have done & by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart, mind, soul, & strength--we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us & lead us, so that we might delight in Your will & walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your holy Name. Amen."

Scripture is filled with worship, filled with people who are worshipers & marked by worship. God designs worship within His purposes & desires. Worship is a way of life. To worship God is to know God as One who loves us & desires us to be holy & blameless before Him.

He gives the grace, He gives the authority, He gives the power to accomplish His purposes & workings. We are continually amazed at His using us for furthering His kingdom! We have to worship God in an acceptable way, not in any way we want. (like Cain) A ransomed, transformed person is able to worship God in spirit & truth because God has made access to His very throne through the blood & life of the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 4:10-26 Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God & who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” “Sir,” the woman replied, “You have nothing to draw with & the well is deep. Where then will You get this living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock?”

13Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. 14But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” Jesus told her, “Go, call your husband & come back.” “I have no husband,” the woman replied.

Jesus said to her, “You are correct to say that you have no husband. In fact, you have had five husbands & the man you now have is not your husband. You have spoken truthfully.” “Sir,” the woman said, “I see that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21“Believe Me, woman,” Jesus replied, “a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do NOT know; we worship what we DO KNOW, for salvation is from the Jews. But a time is coming & has NOW COME when the TRUE WORSHIPERS will worship the Father IN SPIRIT & IN TRUTH, FOR THE FATHER IS SEEKING SUCH AS THESE TO WORSHIP HIM.

GOD IS SPIRIT--& His worshipers MUST WORSHIP HIM--in spirit & in truth.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.” Jesus answered, “I who speak to you am He.”

Worship comes from an Old English word that means to ascribe WORTH to God, Whom we have come to know & have seen His working in & through our lives, using us for His glory.

And the confession we should have as to the purpose of man: it is to worship God, glorifying & enjoying Him forever.

Human Jealousy is sinful.

God's Jealousy is quite different and is a product of intense Love.

When you get close to God, is natural for us to worship, when you realize how the things of his are so greater. That is the reason sometimes in the bible people would worship instinctively and as a almost involuntary reaction to something God does.

In humans it can be from infatuation which is arguably love.

Jealousy can be based out of insecurity, but even secure people can become jealous in the right circumstances. And lack of jealousy in those circumstances doesn't demonstrate greater security, but that something else is amiss.

With God, his jealousy is not based in insecurity. He is sufficient within himself, and he knows his worth. He also knows the value of an inviolate relationship with him.

I think a Christian God requires worship, because without humans, a Christian God ceases to exist (look what happened to Zeus, for example, or Baal). As long as people worship a deity, a deity exists. Once the worship stops, it's game over.

worship | Origin and meaning of worship by Online Etymology Dictionary - to worship means "to treat according to worth" .

If an atheist does not regard a God as existent, to behave and think as if there is no God is in accord with their personal sense of appropriate worth.

To anyone who does believe in a God, worship is still to behave and think according to what God is worth.

I believe God does want us to treat Him as God, that is "to treat according to worth" .
