If you believe in the Holy Trinity then Jesus was with - and is - the God of the Old Testament.
I think that in everything, it helps to look at the Bible in the context of the whole story. Remember that Jesus was and is the Lamb that is slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:8, 1 Peter 1:20)
