Does God have a plan that picks out specifically whom you will marry for every Christian?

The problem with this question is the word plan which is ambiguous. I have 3 answers here:

  1. Paul described God's "plan" in 1C 7:
39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
Generally speaking, God's plan is for you to marry someone in the Lord according to your selection criteria.

2. For the word "plan" in the sense of God's sovereign rule over all creation, the answer is yes.

3. Having said the above, I believe that God had a plan to pick out my wife for me. For a period of a few years, I regularly prayed God's will be done, overriding my own liking of women. I prayed intensely until I was engaged.

In any case, as soon as you have married someone, you stay with your spouse. Don't say to yourself: my partner isn't the perfect one God has chosen or planned for you.

  1. I prefer to stick to the wording of the Bible. Accordingly, the answer is no. No verses explicitly spell out that God plans precisely whom you will marry.

I disagree with (1.)

Where does the wording of the Bible declare that God does not 'plan' specifically whom anyone marries?

Also, there are examples of God's specific plan coming to fruition, though the will of man is always involved as a means of it coming to pass.

You raised a good point. I revised the OP for some clarification.

God rarely picks a specific person for a spouse. Why? Because he does not force someones will on this. Hagin teaches that you should have faith for a wife, but you can't have faith in a specific person because even God will not override their will. Also, if God picked the spouse, if things fall apart as some marriages do, then would God have blame because after all that person was His choice too?
God gives us guidelines from the word and each mate has to choose. Remaining single too is a choice that is not sinful, though better to marry than to burn with passion. Exceptions have occurred though like when God specifically told Hosea to marry a prostitute.
This does not mean that God does not present some great choices in a spouse. Many Christians take the deal. Others may wait and find another choice later. Praying and teaming up with God is always best but if the leading candidate moves on keep your trust in God, there are others that can step in.
