Generally speaking, Ezekiel 18:

23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

There were exceptions for some specific cases, e.g., the sons of Eli the high prest. New King James Version, 1 Samuel 2:

25 If one man sins against another, God will judge him. But if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?” Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the LORD desired to kill them.

God desires people to repent. However, when they insist on being unrepentant, God desires to kill them.

Did he not used to wipe out entire people's who were loyal to rebellious elohim in order to stop rebellion at the root which of course was children who would be taught to follow in the ways of their elders?
