Does fornication = marriage

God did, Amen .. and I'd say its God that still joins people today. The lience is for legal purposes so the country has a bases for how they are going to tax people and the courts have a bases on how to divide up the assest if a divorce happens. From my reading of history divorce has always been the driving factor in legal marriage liences. So now centuries later we think that's how God determines if we are married or not. Ya, God goes down to the local town hall and asks for records. If they are married, then He will bless them.

The state did not establish marriage, therefore, they have no authority over it. God established marriage, therefore, He alone has authority over it. I care not whether the state thinks I'm "legally" married. It only matters if God considers me married. I do not need "permission" from the state to marry. If the state decided that gay marriage is OK would that mean that I would have to accept it as legitimate? No, God instituted marriage, He alone can define it.

If we must follow every law, regardless, then Daniel and his friends were in BIG trouble. How dare they disobey the law by praying to God and refusing to bow to an idol. Didn't they know that it was the law of the land??? *gasp* OK, forgive my sarcasm...

Anyway, we are to obey laws when they do not usurp God's authority. God alone has authority over marriage. A marriage licence is a contract between you, your spouse, and the state. It gives the state authority over your relationship, your property, and your children.

I see no reason why we have to comply with state laws over marriage, just comply with God's laws regarding marriage.

there is a BIG difference between just deciding that we are the law (which goes directly against God's Word) and refusing to obey laws that GO AGAINST GOD'S DIRECT COMMANDS TO US

I have a question Adam said this in Genesis...

Genesis 2:24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Who were Adam and Eve's mother and father? A mother or a father did not even exist yet at this time, so what was Adam talking about?

The quotations are only found in the NIV, not in the KJV.

Also even in the NIV, when God speaks, quotations are also used. Why are they not present now?

But back to the point, if Adam and Eve did not have a mother and father, what did God mean? How did Adam and Eve take this statement?

scripture does not really indicate that they knew He said it.
it is part of scripture, but it is not clear that they heard God speak these words.

Could be the case..but then it comes to the point of how do we know God said it? Just trying to figure this out. I admit my OT understanding, apart from some books is not very good.

Then again my question doesn't make sense because Adam wasn't around to tell Moses anything anyway, I guess being inspired, Moses knew what was said.

You must repent. Getting married to the same person I think would be looked upon as a lesser sin.
