Does anyone read the SA 'classics'?

Curiosity question - has anyone here read any of the old-school SA texts... like In Darkest England or Catherine Booth's essays? Biographies? I'm wondering if these are still popular in the Army today? If you have read them, what did/do you think?

I'm reading Aggressive Christianity atm... talk about confronting! :o

I have read in darkest england. It is food for thought, though also very much of it's time. The writings of Catherine Booth especially about the validity of women's ministry are still valuable...still having the same arguements

I read 'Darkest England', and found it a very good book. Like Abiel said, way ahead of it's time. I'd like to read more of the early Army books (did Railton write any?) I'm sure ITF has links.

Unfortunately, I also read the 'sequal', "In darkest England now", which I believe was by a retire General who I won't name in case it wasn't. I'm afraid I fund it a very good cure for insomnia

I'm (hopefully) going into CFOT next year... I'm sure I'll have to read one or 12 of these books at some point in time.

ITF does have links But the only GSR book I can link you to is The Authoritative Life of General William Booth I'll try to find more.

'The General Next to God' (I just don't remember by whom this great book was written by! )

I want to think that he did write a book on that, but I do not have a title for you. I'll check with our trade store. Now you've got me wondering. My dad owned a copy of Darkest England. Wonderful read.
