CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As far as I know, it all goes back to the earliest animes, way back in the day. Most of the characters in those days looked even less like Asians, and the trends have just continued over the many years. Styles have changed, but you can still see similarities between the newest anime and the oldest.
I don't know if that is the answer to your question, but it's the best I've got.

i heard that anime first came out as a mockery of american cartoons with their big eyes...and then it just became mainstream (not sure if its accurate but that's what i heard)

My copy of La Blue Girl includes an intersting documentary on anime.

Basically, Big eyes are given to the "good guys" because large eyes signify an open caring soul, while bad guys have small, narrow eyes, indicating that their intentions are obscure or no so...pure.

How large a characters eyes are also have relation to their age in some shows. The young crowd have large eyes, and as you see older and older people, their eyes narrow.

I think it's just asian. Or whatever country they came from (Japanese, Korean, Chineese).
Oriental has negative connotations from awhile back, when 'the white man' looked down on everyone.
