  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone know of a Church Directory/Listing (US)?

Hey,

I am a Theistic Evolution and am in search of churches locally that believe in Theistic Evolution. That's definitely a broad label, but any form of it would be preferable to a Creationist Church. So I've been searching out a possibly directory or listing of Churches in the US that believe in a Theistic Evolution?

Thanks for posting the link, this has directed me to a couple of Churches in my locale that may fit. I definitely don't want to attend another Creationist church. Since I abandoned Creationism for Theistic Evolution I have definitely found some resistance in online communities I am part of that hold that belief.

The saddest thing is that many Creationists can't simply hold their own belief and fellowship with other Christians holding a different interpretation, they often have to attack anyone who believes differently. Enough of my rambling though :)

Which denominations are those? I've found it challenging to find such info :/
Anglicans
ELCA Lutherans
Catholics
PCUSA Presbyterians (unsure about other Presby branches)
Methodists

I wouldn't say they "believe in" TE - it's just that for most mainstream denominations, it tends not to be a big deal.

Hi,
you'll probably be interested in this list, from the "Answers in Creation" website. Read the "AIC Review" to find out how open the denomination is to old-earth creationism and/or theistic evolution.

I'm Catholic, the Catholic Church is not officially TE, there are some Catholics that are Old Earth Creationists and some who are YEC, but I can say most Catholics are TE. Most Creation theology done in the Catholic Church is done from a TE point of view, and the Catholic study Bibles do use the documentary hyphotesis on Genesis.

Names like Teilhard the Chardin, Karl Schmith Mooreman, John Haught and Kenneth Miller come across a lot.
Methodist and Anglican vary. Most are TE, even the conservative Methodist denomination Church of the Nazarene has produced good process theology TE professors even if they are YEC or OEC officialy. More liberal Methodists then to be TE.
Anglicans are largely TE, Withehead is the father of Process Theology, Arthur Peacock is both a respected scientist and a reverend, but there are some creationist too.

ELCA and Euro Lutheran are TE.
Eastern Orthodoxs are a mixed group with YECs, OEC,s and TE represented. Some of the greatest evolutive scientists of the XX centuries were Russian Orthodox. Teosius Dobzansky for example.

Creationism is mostly an American thing now.
