Does Anyone Here Sew?

Hi everyone!

I recently took up the hobby of sewing and have fallen in love! My first obstacle was finding a good website online to order my sewing supplies from, including a sewing machine. Well, let me tell you that took almost a month! I finally came across this sewing supplies website (buysewingsupplies .net) and haven't looked back! After ordering everything I need, now I am practicing constantly.

Does anybody here sew? When did you start?

Hi.

I sew; have been off-and-on since I was 10 years old. Since I got married I haven't had my own machine, but I just ordered one.

I taught myself to sew in 4th grade and haven't stopped since. I make mostly costumes but recently got a serger and am now making functional garments.

I rarely order online but when I do its generally from well known companies like JoAnns and Hobby Lobby. JoAnns is my go to place, it rarely lets me down

I don't know how to attach pictures or I'd totally put some of mine up! Sad.. But your dresses are so lovely, Nienna!

I am wanting to know if you sew blankets. I like those. I guess it must be due to being a lady. I have gone to target and have looked at their blankets I dont know maybe I will collect a few. Do you know of anyone who makes nice soft blankies? I want to buy some. I've seen blankies from all over. ^^

I like fabric.com and spoonflower.com where it is a bit expensive but you create your own patterns that the website than puts up for sale.

I have yet to start a project, but as soon as I get a sewing machine I will hopefully make something!

LOVE the costumes created by Nienna Lady of Tears! Beautiful! You have some serious talent.

I would love to learn how to create quilts. I love the stories behind each pattern and the rich history to it. I can't wait to make my first!

It's been awhile since the original post, are you still sewing, Happiest&Thankful?

Sewing took on a whole new face when I picked up a book teaching the art of
pattern making. It is my humble opinion that making your own patterns is the
way to go for great fitting clothes, that you can design, and not feel like you've
been through a cookie cutter (so to speak).

I love the sewing portion, too, but have been doing more and more 'beuatiful' items lately - ie: wall quilts, tatted lace, etc, as the clothing can be bought 'on sale' for less than the cost of the necessary fabric, notions, thread, pattern etc. Exception is for novelty items - I did a Victoria era costume for under $100 - to purchase a cheap version of similar it would have been about $500

I have been sewing since I took Home Ec in junior high school. I have made most all of both of my daughter's halloween costumes, which range from princess to tigger to harry potter to witches to a strawberry. I have made the costumes for my one daughter's dance class. I made my Sr. Prom dress and my one daughter's Jr. Prom dress. Now I make quilts (there is an album on my profile of some of the quilts I have made.)

I used to make clothes, but I don't do that as much anymore.

I just started sewing this year and I love it..

You can find a lot of sewing tutorials on youtube.com. These are great because you can see exactly what they are doing and do it yourself!
