The Nintendo Power comic of Zelda a Link to the Past?

I remember getting that from my dad one day, it was like the greatest thing I have ever seen. Granted I don't have it anymore but I was able to find a zip file with it and just skimming through it, it's like blast to the past. It was pretty much the reason I fell in love with comics and I remember drawing so many pics of Link from it. I was a bit a nub back then drawing wise and I still kinda am but this comic alone inspired me more than any other one I can think of. For those that don't know what I am referring to I shall post a image from it.

I think I might remember that. I had the Nintendo Power subscription for a long time. On a side note, I hated that they wouldn't publish Game Genie codes.

The artwork seems really familiar to me, so I think I probably had some of the issues.

Do you remember the Super Mario Bros Super Show? They had a Legend of Zelda show every Friday. I ran across it on Netflix and my kids were hooked. Talk about nerding out. I loved it and still do.

I only ever played Ultima Exodus. I still have it too, along with a few other NES games. My NES is actually hooked up to my big TV (looks rather awful considering) and we did a Mario 3 competition during one of my kids' birthday parties.

I don't care how absolutely horrible the show was either. I loved it. I was very upset if I missed it. Poor Link couldn't get a kiss to save his life. :(

I never got them mailed to me, but I did jot down codes whenever we went to the bookstore.

There was a time when I could complete every level in that game. Playing through again, I remembered all the warp whistle locations, I got most of the way toward the final castle. I think I had three or four levels left. I could so have gotten through the final castle. It was easier than a lot of other levels in that world.

I fulfilled a childhood dream a couple of years ago and beat Bowser in World 8 with the Hammer Brothers Suit. I'd always wanted to see what happened if you beat him that way instead of letting him fall through the floor. As I recall, there was very little difference, but it was extremely pleasing none the less.

Glad I'm not the only one here who loves the old stuff

Older games are awesome. I will argue to this day that the Super NES represents the best era of gaming.

I've never read that comic before, but I do consider the 16-Bit era to be the overall best gaming era ever, even better than 8-Bit. Gaming went downhill some after that IMO, though there's still good stuff to be had from later eras.

ETA: I've never tried Ultima - Runes of Virtue. If I ever get another SNES, I will have to look into it.

Well, it was the era when graphics weren't everything and they had to make a playable game around the story line instead.

True. And is it just me, or are many NES/SNES/Sega games about 2x as hard as the vast majority of current games? I can blast through Bioshock and Dead Space (excellent games, by the way), but still can't beat Ninja Gaiden (NES).

It's all about the timing of jumps. I swear the devil designed NG. SOOOOOOO hard :p

Nah I had it on the gameboy :p I am glad I am not alone in my belief that that 16/8 bit was the golden age of gaming :)

I always seem to forget those were also on GameBoy as well.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this belief either.

That is so true. If anything it brought out the imagination of the person playing it.

I remember them, my brother and I had a subscription to NP, I thought the Zelda comics were well done, especially considering they were featured in a video game mag, and somewhat limited in what could be accomplished storywise. Check this out, save wear and tear on your old backissues with: http://phobos.emuparadise.org/218/Mags/supplement_032-043_-_zelda_3_comics.cbr Enjoy! I thought the Super Metroid comics were even better. :D
