  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone here read the "Left Behind" books?

I agree,

Especially the horsemen that breathe smoke and sulphur

While some folks say they are not very well written, i think that part of the descriptive of the writing in a way allows you to place yourself in the scene. In a weird kind of way :D I dont think there is any scriptural support for a pre-trib rapture thought.

Yeah, I've read them. I'll keep reading them, too, since I'm "into" the series.

But I thought the books were terribly-written. Some of the descriptions are confusing, there are contradictions, and some stuff is flat-out UNBELIEVABLE. The horrible head-wound of the pilot (can't remember his name) and a doctor giving him a prescription of a combination drug containing morphine and Prozac? And if he takes too much of it, another doctor recommends Benzedrine, and then the man can FLY? Oh, come ON now!

Just when you get to liking a new character, he or she gets killed off.

The handy "coincidences" for the Trib force get to be tiresome, too. An earthquake that destroys an entire town, yet doesn't touch an underground hiding place--Buck having an unlimited expense account so he can buy stuff for the Trib force--the PERFECT hideout in Chicago, complete with an underground parking garage fulll of practically new vehicles--Rafe can fly anything--planes are ALWAYS available when the Trib force needs something-- well, you get the idea.

My impression is that if the End of the World does occur the way the "Rapture" folks envision it, it will be an incredibly difficult ordeal for Christians, not this "just in the nick of time" stuff that the Trib force encounters.

Peace be with you,

I love the books, I've read them all. I think the last one was the most surprising to me because I expected it to have lots of action like the others but I was dissapointed at all, it was threw me a bit because it was calmer than the last ones. Anyways I really like the whole series.

Maybe I'll like The Remnant then if it really is calmer. I was kinda getting tired of all the non-stop buzzing around the world and constant danger that everyone was in. All the new people--holy cow, I can't even remember the old people.....

But, I'll read them all anyway. I want to know how it all ends.

So far, they've been an enjoyable read. I think I'm a few books behind the latest. My favorite part about them is the relationships the Trib force have with eachother. There's unconditional love, forgiveness, group prayer, accountability. The authors do a good job of setting a good example for Christian relationships, IMO.

But!!....:D

While I do enjoy reading them, I think they're pretty funky theologically. And that again, is my humble opinion. :)

My pastor tore the books APART! (I happen to be a fan) He said that Tim Lahaye and Jenkins were just trying to make money yadda yaddda....I thought, boy, when you win as many people to Christ as they have--regardless of whether they're making money off of it--THEN you can criticize....some people!

I read the first four, but after the 3rd I got bored. I don't think I would have spent money on them--I read them on my lunch break at a Christian bookstore.

I also thought it really suspect that the series just keeps dragging on--wasn't it supposed to just be seven books? The commercialism of Christianity is something that bothers me in general, though.

Of course, different strokes for different folks! :)
