Does anyone else have this problem....

I have this problem-
I get A's in classes that pertain to my major, but gen eds are extremely hard- precisely math and science. I fail them...
maths and sciences have always been hard. Most of my other gen eds are like more writing classes, which are easy...
I'm not a math and science major!
Does anyone else have this problem?

Nope, I have problems attending classes that stem from high school/middle school study habits. I know I'd be bad at anything artsy too. I give up easily too..

Actually I somehow got away with only taking three gen eds my whole college career (thanks to the PSEO high school program). But it sounds like the issue may just be that you're not used to studying in the science/math fashion. Studying for these subjects is different than liberal arts. In liberal arts, studying textbooks and learning facts is important, but in science and math it's more important to practice working problems. I'm a physics TA, and I somtimes recommend that my students not read the textbook too much, but rather that they spend their time working problems. This might help you somewhat.

I think people have problems with those classes because its not an interest to them. They don't have the urge.

ahh, see I have trouble with them because I'm really not good at maths, my youngest sister inherited the maths and science genes, I got mine from my mothers side which generally consists of farmers.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Math and science are the two reasons im not in college this year. This might sound silly but I'm afraid to take those classes. I feel like math and science are holding my back from my dream of earning a college degree and getting a good job. I'm not dumb and I do try very hard. I easily get A's in other subjects, I just don't understand numbers.

then you should have good math and science skills...farmers are some of the smartest people I know. They have to be, to make a living.

well...i am TERRIBLE at math, so i do not take the science classes that involve math. Like, i took the intro to genetics class. I am acually no longer taking math. YAY! I got out of it by taking an Excel class instead of Algebra 2. It makes me mad how the only reason i failed was because i ran out of summer. My friend is a math genius and helped me through the summer to prepare. I did ok on the things we went over during the summer- but anything we didnt get to, i failed.

I had the same problems when taking my gen ed classes. I'm very thankful I do well in classes in my major, it's boosted my average a lot.

I had a teacher last semester tell us we didn't need to read the text book because all the tests would be over stuff from the notes she handed out..... I ended up failing the class because of it...... The final test was 90% from the text book.

i have the same problem. it's typically easy to get an A in a class thats interesting, but hard in a boring class.

its not even that the classes are particularly boring.... i just don't understand it at all. some science things are interesting... though i still do not understand.
