  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I post my first post on behavior in Church this morning and my youngest acts like an absolute TOOT in mass today.

Then the Gospel is about the temptation by Satan and right at the end of Mass we get nailed by a thunderstorm w/30MPH winds, no one has rain gear, as if it mattered, I brought an umberella thinking it might get here before the end of Mass, it was sucked out of my hand as we were trying to cross the river that was once a street... we got soaked!

Ya got me thinkin' Christy! :D

I think its normal because after viewing our Saviour in such a difficult light, we start to examine ourselves and our actions. Perhaps some of it is guilt, but we are all feeling it. Pray and thank Jesus for his sacrifice. Recommit to him your soul and your life.

I feel like this was a reConfirmation of sorts. It has brought me closer to God and will continue to do so.

Pray.

Sounds about right to me....

Well, I have seen similar evil seem to lurk because of this movie. I was talking to my co-worker, and her best friend was at the movies seeing the Passion. During the entire movie, there was a Hindu couple sitting behind her kicking at her chair the entire time! Her friend firmly believes that these people were there to cause trouble.
My co-worker has told me that she believes this movie will be one of the last things to help others come to Christ. She thinks the end days are coming soon. But from this film, I have seen Christians be more united with a couple exceptions. They are taking their unchurched friends with them to the move. Something also hit me during this thread. Someone said that it had led them to a re-confirmation of their faith. Likewise, I have heard many of my fellow Protestants say that they have recommited their lives to Christ. Today in church, I was thinking of the potential that this movie has to touch the lives of Christians themselves. I haven't seen the Passion yet, but I am really thinking that it will help get back some of the fire of my fervor in days gone by. I think it's important to be aware of Satan; he is mad that his time is running out!!

Yes. with the beginning of lent and us drawing nearer to the Lord, we are under attack.

I have noticed this Lent after Lent after Lent. I do believe the spiritual tests get more intense around Lent.

If you'll excuse me the comment, I also feel that the USA is at a very dark point in its history. The Left has moved away from protecting the working man into an obsession with political correctness, and the Right seems to be out to justify the out and out greed of uncontrolled capitalism. What is scarey is that the Right so often has a Christian veneer. America seems bent on continuing to ignore its friends and allies and has come to be seen from the outside as an arrogant world bully rather than the beacon of liberty it should and could be again.

Praying for America ...

We just went away for the weekend and Cyclone Ivy hit us! We had no power or water for most of Sunday, from 2 a.m. onwards. (It is Monday here in NZ now.) We thought the beach house we were staying in was going to blow down! A tree fell but (thank God) fell away from the house. If it had fallen the other way, I would not be here typing this ...

I think you'll fine most Christians supporting the right because they actually are closer to our values. The left has never prevented the "working man", it's all just a front to get more votes. I think you should reverse the entire allied situation. Our allies have ignored us. A good example is France. There have been some to support us like Great Britain. If you think capitalism is so evil, what do you suggest?

I agree in that, the more secular Europe becomes, the farther it falls (or runs) away from Scripture, the farther they fall away from us and our former common causes.
I am in no way saying that America is a Saint of nations, but I think our moral confusion remains less than that of Europe's. FWIW.
But the world itself, as a whole, seems deeper in depravity than I can think of it having been in a long time. The Western Nations are a good indicator of this.

Well, the perspective outside America is that you ignored us by making unilateral decisions ... but as I don't want to turn this into a political discussion, I will leave it at that. See -- the language is like that between a couple when heading for divorce. There is a huge rift now between the USA and its friends and allies, with each blaming the other.

I also think your response is a sign of the huge divide between right and left in your country, a divide which is not so marked here or in Europe or Canada.

I do not think capitalism is evil. I run a business. I think the right in many countries encourages greed while the left encourages envy. I feel that politically, Europe, Canada and NZ have got the balance about right -- it's called 'social democracy' and is a good compromise betwen the rights and needs of business and labour, of rich and poor.

Please stay on topic, rather than letting this drift into a "America is hated by the rest of the world, because we're big bullies, and we know it, and basically, we Americans think we're the country, so everyone else can just be quiet, because we don't really care what anyone else thinks", thread... :)

Save it for the politics section.

Thank you... ;)

Coming back to topic ...

I am praying that The Passion will lead many to Christ, both Left and Right, in Europe and the US and the Commonwealth for that matter. It's making ripples here in NZ too.

I do think that the US is divided in a way that other western countries aren't, and that feels like a dangerous situation to me. I frequently pass through the USA on my way home to Scotland and it feels like a country on edge and not at all comfortable with itself.

you're right, Christy. my spiritual trials have picked up to an unprecedented pace this week, and just this week, too. very scary, indeed. some of my friends (especially one Jewish friend) have begun testing my faith through questions. very creepy indeed :prayer:

Keep your eye on those Jewish friends, their questions are going to be a gift from God, I know this first hand! I am waiting and fully prepared for my Jewish friends to talk with me because I will have the opportunity to tell them about Jesus like never before :)

Debi,

Don't be afraid, it still is a safe haven for you. The first step for everyone is to recognize the evil and I think we are doing that now. Now it is up to all of us to fight it and watch for it to pop up, even call each other on it when we see angry feelings arise. The evil one wants us to engage in hateful debates and he smiles at us when this happens. I don't know about anyone else but I do not intend to put any smiles on that snaky face! Let's all try to love each other no matter what and remember the forces that strive to divide us.

Christy

In the light of this, please forgive me for raising politics in this thread.

I feel a little numb, sorta like 9-11.

You just saw the movie today right? For me the numbness wore off after the first day and was replaced by sorrow, I think I cried and felt more in the following couple of days than I did while I was watching. I think it takes a little while to sink all the way in. Today it was harder in church. I am glad though, I welcome these feelings, they bring me closer to Him. :)

I expect the same to happen to me. I am even more excited about Easter. It's my favorite day of the year anyway, and now it will be that much better.:prayer:

Does anyone else feel it??

Ever since the opening of The Passion I have felt something really weird. I can't really place it but it's like I feel something evil in the air. It just feels like there must be some serious spiritual warfare going on right now. It's almost like that feeling you sometimes get when you feel like something bad is gonna happen. Has anyone else ever felt that? I'm getting a little frightened about it. It seems like this thing with Howard Stern for example is getting an awful lot of news coverage, what is that about? I know it sounds like I am rambling but thats because I can't really describe what I am feeling. I am sort of hoping someone will just understand. LOL You are probably like "what does Howard Stern have to fo with this?" I just can't help but think that two weeks ago it wouldn't have been so widely covered. And now this Rosie O'Donell thing. I feel like we are in for something, I just don't know what.
I know you all think I am nuts now!

I feel like we need to pray, I mean seriously pray. I feel like that is the message I am getting, crazy or not.
Funny you should mention that. I've been feeling closer to God more now then ever in my life. I'm being very serious here. I've also had the urge to pray for a couple people in my church back home, and the body of Christ in general. I don't think that I've ever just 'had the urge' to pray for anyone before. I don't know if it's just a coincinence that you've had that to or not.

I haven't seen The Passion my the say.:) I plan to eventually.

Defense, you just said that because she's cute.
:D It's true!
