Does anybody else find it difficult to sing the 'I promise' choruses?

Recently I have been enjoying going to my local Anglican church and have realised that I have really enjoyed singing the hymns (Ancient and Modern). I have especially noticed how little they major (actually, not at all) on promises I will make.
E.g. I will love / serve / worship thee forever.
These hymns focus on God and what He has done in Jesus.
BUT, is this comfort just so I can avoid rededicating myself verbally and remain passive and a recipient.

No. The traditional approach reflects Scripture. There are calls for decision there, but Scripture is mostly about what God has done. Too many recent denominations pick one theme and overemphasize it. And often that theme is about me, in one way or another. The consequence is to make people look to their own feelings, decisions, or actions for assurances, rather than to God.
