  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

well I technically don't take dance anymore, I used to take ballet at the pittsburgh youth ballet, I later went to a different dance school and took jazz tap ballet and baton, but I quit that like 2 years ago. about 2 weeks ago I started taking baton and colorguard classes at the coach for my school's colorguard/majorettes school, so hopefully I can make one of them for next year cause I hate playing saxophone lol. would you consider that a dance class?

I took dance classes regularly for about a year and a half. I was in training to become a dance instructor for most of that time. I don't have time to take classes regularly now, but I do go to weekend workshops occasionally.

This may seem a stupid question: But what is hip-hop dancing anyways?
It's a codified technique for dance (like Ballet, Jazz, African dance, etc) with it's own set of rules. It is a technique that is still evolving and has many sub-categories.

Examples of sub-categories: Hype, locking, smirf, breackdance.

Examples of 'rules' : mobility of sholders - they role back and forwards.
Isolated centers - hips or middle of bust you can move them forwards or backwards or to the sides.
I'd have to show you to explain.

So it's kinda like freestyle, with some parts you ahve to do?
This would be a bad definition.
As with most styles of dance, you learn a certain set of movements, or a certain way to move, or certain rules by which you move. Then you are taught short choreographies, or rutines that you do to put these movements to use. Some styles of dance encourage you to make up your own dances based on the movements you were taught, or make up your own movements based on the rules you were taught. Hiphop essentally came to being this way. So this tends to be encouraged. In African dance, this is an important part of the 'know how'. In ballet, for example, they don't encourage this, because they like to concentrate on discipline, not so much on creativity.
