  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Oh, certainly- Indian classical music is wonderful. I especially like the southern style kritis.

The father of an Indian friend of mine once listened to a compilation CD of popular (Western) classical music. When it finished, I'm told, he made a disdainful gesture and complained that "it's all the same raga."

Thanks! I fear that Americans make up the majority in this forum, and Indian music is not well known in the States. Although, I've started to hear ghazal on independent radio sometimes, so maybe it will become more popular in the future? I think the tradition of the alap is what throws many American audiences- we are not accustomed to non-metric, improvised music, so it strikes many as strange. The same problem prevents Americans from enjoying Chinese, Japanese music as well, more's the pity.

Never been exposed to it to the degree it stuck with me,sorry. It may be cultural,I don't know.I just don't ever listen to this. I am very much stuck in the renaissance phase of classical music.

Link is helpful so I'll go listen a bit.
