  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does a person go to hell if they haven't been baptised?

May I ask how this came up? (Just curious.) Is there a reason that he feels so strongly about this?

I was telling him that in my opinion, according to my experience in the various churches I've checked out over the years, the teachings I've heard at Baptist churches come closest to Scripture, or at least my understanding of Scripture.

Then he said, "Yeah, but they're not perfect either. They put too much emphasis on baptism and believe you have to be baptised to be saved."

I don't think there's any particular reason he feels so strongly about this. I think he just believes that there's something wrong with every denomination, and if you look closely enough, you'll find it.

He's usually right about things. But he's wrong on this one.

Well, he's right about one thing: Baptists aren't perfect!:sorry:

However, his comments about the "cult-like" beliefs of the "leadership" are dead wrong in my experience. I have met many of the "leaders" of my branch of the Baptists, the Seventh Day Baptists, and can hardly imagine anyone less like cult leaders. They are very responsive to their membership and never try to dictate doctrine. For one thing, our people wouldn't stand for it!^_^ Anybody who tries to make the Seventh Day Baptist Conference into a cult won't get anywhere. We value our independent consciences far too highly!:amen:

Neither would ours!
