• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does 1 cor 8:7 mean you can make anything into a particular sin?

I am worried that the verse means that if I do something with the idea that it is a particular sin I will be guilty of committing that sin. For example I am worried that particular things are blasphemy, like for example riding a bike, if I feel that it is blasphemy while doing it am I guilty of blasphemy ?

No. There is such a thing as false guilt. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. He wants us to feel guilty all the time. There is a big difference between conviction, which is from the Holy Spirit, and condemnation, which is from Satan. Conviction simply tells us we are wrong. Condemnation is intended to make us feel worthless and hopeless. We must always be ready to confess sin, but we should also be glad that God forgives us when we confess. And when God forgives, He forgets. We do not need to beat ourselves up and we sure do not need to accept Satan's attacks.

Sin is an act of rebellion or deliberately breaking of God's law.

Riding a bike is not an act of rebellion.

May I suggest two things.

That you check out the Web site ' 25 tips for successful treating ones OCD, particularly point 4 about intrusive thoughts.

And that you realise that God knows you through and through and will not let your fragile faith be destro5 or judge you because of your mental illness.

Thank you, I just worry that if I feel like it is it might become blasphemy simply because I believed it was.

No, there is a difference between intrusive thoughts and real beliefs. I could have a thought that using a computer is blasphemy, but I know it's not, so it isn't a sin.
But I worry that because the actual act of the people eating the idol meat was not sinful until they ate it as if it were a thing sacrificed to an idol, that if I do anything with the idea that it is blasphemous that I will be guilty of committing blasphemy even if I didn't say anything bad.
I was thinking that
1. They ate meat sacrificed to idols. 2. they ate it an a manner that was unacceptable. 3. the meat was not sinful. 4. the manner in which they ate it was sinful. 5. if this was applied to anything else, would it mean if they walked outside thinking walking was eating to an idol would the same apply?

Does blasphemy become e not blasphemy just because someone believes it is no blasphemous?
No, blasphemy does not change because of one's beliefs.

Trust in God's Love and Mercy towards you.
He understands your weaknesses so rather than worry about what might be, praise and worship him for what he has done.

Blasphemy (that forfeits salvation) is continued and persistent rejection of the Lord.

Pharoh is an good example.

What Does the Bible Say About Blasphemy?

Thought and speech .... not material things.

It is in the intent. If God is moving upon us to do a certain thing and we don’t do it, we do something else. That would being going against His will and thereby grieving Him and hindering others. Ignoring God is sinnning.

Paul was talking about something specific. OCD can't transform random, harmless actions into blasphemy.
