  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey all,

How may of you work while you're in school and how many hours? I'm taking three courses, one of which doesn't start until 3:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, so I usually work for an hour or two before class and then I work 8-5 on Sundays. I'm finding this to be alot though, and am having a hard time keeping up. I actually spent most of my day yesterday working on my math and chemisrty homework. I also volunteer at a local Wildlife Refuge every second Saturday, and should be volunteering for 16 hours a month, but doubt very much I'll be able to do that :( I was hooping to put in six - eight hours next Saturday, but have to cover a shift for a co-worker (well I don't have to, but if I want her to cover a shift for me in two weeks so I can study for mid-terms, I kinda have to...). So yeah, how busy is everyone?

Work...also known as the TTC fund...:sigh: ...ah the woes of sitting on subway trains waiting for them to move...I work about 6 hours a week or so , and the times are REALLY flexible...Its in a daycare in a local church so that makes things kinda flexible...especially since students are the ones who clean the joint, my boss is ok with being flexible for times and what not, so thats why I have the job...:D

I'm a work-study (the ONLY benefit you get from filling out that FAFSA) for the ITS department. I'm allowed 10 hours a week max. It can be a lot to juggle when you have 4-5 classes, but I'm really grateful to have an income and I'm learning a ton of useful things.

Used to work 40+ hours while going full time to college, but it became too much for me. With exception to some part-time computer work, I am currently jobless, but I already have a few job offers (electrician) for when I graduate this Spring.

Wow, I have no idea how you balanced 40 hours and full-time school!! My main problem with school right now, is my Chem teacher. He's super nice, and funny, so his classes are fun, but we don't really learn anything. I have to read the textbook chapter before the lecture, but I can never remember facts and figures just by reading them, I have to write them down. So, anyway, yesterday I started reading through the chapter and taking notes, and it was five hours by the time I was done!!!! If it hadn't have been for that, I could have gotten my Astronomy assignment done, and would have nothing to do today besides go to work and class. Now on top of work and classes, I have to still do my chem homework questions (which I started this morning before breakfast, but was too tired for wotk for much longer than 45 mins on them), and Astronomy assignment. Plus I have a chem quiz on wednesday and was hoping to start studying tonight, but again, will have to spend the night on my assignment, assuming I can get those chem questions done between work and class :p Arugh, I'm so worried about my chem class! Anyway, gotta run off to work...

well, I don't work quite as much as you guys do....but last semester I was doing about 7 hours a week at the library...this semester I'm going to be working at admissions, not sure how much per week, but I'm sure it'll be about the same (I'd estimate 10, but I haven't gotten my schedule, so we'll see)

The funny thing about being in college with a job, is that since I don't have a car (use the train to get everywhere, go U-PASS!), the money I make isn't instantly gone..I've actually had the ability to accumulate some of it! :)

It's alright, come summer it'll all be gone...muahah

I'm a tutor at my college, so I only work when I'm needed and I can spare the time which is good and bad. The hours are really scattered, but generally fall between 10-15 hours/month so that is pretty stinky that I don't get very many, but then again it is a little money and I still have plenty of time to hang out and get all of my homework done.

I had to quit my four and a half year run at Wal-Mart to go to college... I was so happy to see that place go :-D

They offered me a job in a town near my school, but they didn't want to let me go home with two months notice...and I didn't have to work and my parents prefered me not to, so I didn't get a new job. I am hoping I won't have to work next semester.

I worked a variety of hours when I did work though. My second semester at college at home, I worked over 40 hours a week because I was a manager. I will never ever ever ever ever do that again, at the end of the semester I was in the hospital with shingles because of stress.
