if you say you have no sin, then the truth is not in you
False statement.
If you repent what do you do? You have a change of heart which also correlates into your actions changing. You get the remission of sins (Acts 10:43) through this repentant belief, not the sinners prayer. Remission means "The cancellation of a debt, charge, or penalty."
Scripture also says
"And such (sinners) were some of you: but ye are
washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are
justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus,
and by the Spirit of our God." (I Corinthians 6:11)
And if you sin in the future Jesus is your advocate as said in 1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." Advocate means: A person who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause or policy. Jesus also said more things about sinning as a believer in God in the story of when he washed the disciples feet.
Scripture says
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “
If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “
He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” (John 13:8-10)
Now someone who is of the redeemed (the bathed) need only to wash his feet but remains completely clean means what to you? Are they asking for forgiveness of sin or are they ruminating on the work the Lord did? One is putting forgiveness in your own hands, the latter puts power in the gospel.
Christians technically cannot sin anymore since they have been born of God. It says in 1 John 3:9 "Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God." The apostle didn't contradict himself. In one area it says if we do sin we have an advocate. In another he says that believers cannot sin. This is because the Lord speaks on the believers behalf. They are in liberty and are cleared from sin forever. God is hallowed, separate from sin, and he resides in the believers heart. Sealing him till the day of redemption. (Ephesians 1:13-14). Having sin means you are separate from God "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. " (Isaiah 59:2)
You read one verse when the whole bible speaks plainly what it means to be born again. And even that verse speaks about being cleansed.
1 John 1:8-9
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The book of 1 John defines what "all unrighteousness" in 1 John 5:17 "All unrighteousness is sin,.."
The scripture states that if we say we have no sin the truth is not in us. I AGREE. It also says if we say we have never sinned we make God a liar, who accuses us. But it says if we confess our sin he will cleanse us from all sin. I don't know what world you come from where 'all' doesn't mean every sin. Or completely clean means only 'partially clean'.
In light of that, I truly believe with all my heart that I have not even one sin. Ever since I was born again I was in this perfection. I also believe the world has been cleansed from all its sin.
