  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think?

Do you think God laughs at us? I know odd question....but I'm a pretty funny person and I like to just be goofy and silly sometimes. I love making people laugh..not sure if thats a good thing or immature thing lol. (I don't act my age..almost 47)
Just wondering if he finds us funny or amusing...I guess I just see him as being very mature, and too serious. Which of course he is...but does he have a funny side too? and yes, I know we are made in his image..so I would think he does.

As we age, we do mature, but I am still a big kid at heart.

I don't think so I think God is serious.

But, I have heard that the ending of the Book of Jonah could be God being funny with Jonah. Although I don't think so myself. I think God knew that the people of that time valued cattle and so God sparing the cattle was merciful.

It was said that when God mentions cattle it's sort of him being facetious.

Jonah 4:11 KJV
(11) And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

This is because the people of Nineveh put sackcloth on their animals to please God. Which is a bit silly.

Jonah 3:8 KJV
(8) But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

Surely God does laugh and He shares that with us to create more laughter, as He takes great pleasure in it.

After our resurrection, I'm totally convinced we will be laughing hard, hysterically, and roll over like we see babies do now.

Think He laughs but doesnt make fun of us.

Heard an interview with neurosugeon ,Dr Avery Jackson , who has written "God's Prescription Book" Includes an explanation of some benefits of laughter. It's amazing how God made our bodies. Not surprised He blesses us with laughter One comment by Dr Avery Jackson was - our bodies benefit if it's an authentic laugh or when we make ourselves laugh. Thought it was interesting and useful.

I was told during a kinship meeting Jesus went to a wedding for fun, not to turn water into wine. Yes, God does seem to be very serious too often, but Jesus is also 100% human.

Absence of evidence does not equal evidence of absence.

I find it nearly impossible to believe God doesn't laugh at humanity. He made things relatively simple for the faithful, yet even the faithful humans find myriad ways to complicate life for ourselves. Surely He would have reclaimed the earth by now had He not a sense of humor in which to dilute His anger and disappointment.

I think God must have a dozen moods at the same time. Wrath at sin, laughing His head off at some of the silly things we do, love within the Trinity, a sense of loss at each soul condemned to Hell, joy in the presence of the angels and saints, pleasure in deep thought (which really would be deep), pity when He knows a natural disaster or war is going to hit a nation...

I think He laughs. GK Chesterton thought that when Christ went off alone to pray sometimes, part of the reason was so that his blundering disciples wouldn't see Him laughing his head off at their silliness.

So it was on my mind again today…I’m so silly and goofy, and I laugh at anything. I love to make people laugh, but sometimes I feel this could be a faulty thing because I’m goofy 90% of the time. I’m an adult but act younger…kid in adult body lol. I feel as a Christian I need to be serious.

As we age, we do mature, but I am still a big kid at heart.

"He who sits in the heavens laughs." (Psalm 2:4).

God is portrayed in Scripture by metaphor as having affections, which are grounded in his eternal, infinite and unchanging perfections. In other words, human emotions are analogous to God's ways, and so human emotions are employed in Scripture to explain God's behavior toward someone/group (anger = justice). God cannot have changing emotions like humans. When we sin, it is not God who changes toward us in anger, that's only an analogy, rather our sin places us before His unchanging wrath (which relative to us seems like being 'stirred up to anger') and we suffer as a consequence. When we humble ourselves, God is merciful toward us. Nothing of God changes, only us and how we perceive God's works.
