Do you often despair because of your sin?

The Bible says that Satan "is the accuser of our brethren (Rev. 12.10)", but we should not beat ourselves up over failure because those who thirst for rightousness shall be filled (Matthew 5.6)

I think every Christian at one point or another in thier walk will despair if they are being honest. It is a natural outcry of the heart against indwelling sin. Rom. 7 But I also believe it is the product of unbelief. If we focus on the Gospel we are less apt to despair. I struggled with depression for many years and the Lord taught me to lean on Christ's finished work on the cross and for as many years now I have lived virtually depression free.

yes , we all struggle with sin ........... the battle belongs to the Lord!

Yes there is a struggle, but I do not think that we can lean on Rom 7 to give the Christian any comfort. The traditional Augustinian interpretation of Rom 7 appears to be incorrect and the "I" of Rom 7 is the figurative Adam, followed by the figurative pre-conversion Jew. At any rate, I probably do not despair as often as I should...but I do despair.

My best friend, a woman I love very very much, recently reached the point of total despair at some sinful attitudes and actions in her life. This is the advice I gave her: "Do not worry when you hate yourself for your sin, but remember your standing in Christ. It is when you cease to hate your sin itself that fear should grip your heart."

Jesus Christ is with all his chosen people, through thick and through thin. His sacrafice on the cross made him into God, which is exercises his powers worthily: do not dispair.
