My last project I finished up was 432 tracks. You have to freeze a lot of the vst tracks to do something like that as you work to keep it going.

Sorry for the slow reply I just finished my new flghtsim music for my next upcoming flightsim music video project I'll be working on soon .

Its called AIR-REPO - ok whats the secret when trying to add a song link , can't seem to post it .

Thats alot of tracks , what kind of music are you creating I would like to listen to some of your music .

God has surprises , thanks Buddy -James

Correct. Composing essentially the soundtrack, but only doing a couple tracks for it at this point.

Sorry for the slow reply , been working like crazy on this new song guitar and piano and then because its the end up of the month all the bills needed to be paid and food shopping .

It sounds like your a professional composer , for me right now its a hobby but do plan on making some money from my years of working with electrica type music .
I have been at this for seven years now , before that I was a drummer for eighteen years untill I ended up disabled .
That sort ended my drumming and needed to find something else I could do at home that had to do with music .
So I bought a keyboard and started messing around with some music software and seven years later here I am now .
I have about five more years to get to where I want to be , being good means alot of hard work .
I went through all that learning to play drums , three years of drum lessons and all the years of practice .
For the last seven years doing that all over again , hopefully all my effort and time will pay off God willing .
God never fails when you keep the faith . Stay focus on God , keep the faith and the reward is big !

Cheers -James

Why five more years to get where you want to be?

Electronic music is a bit of a beast at the moment. The problem with it is that it's gotten too big and people are starting to get sick of it. Dubstep is already on the way out thanks to the influx of people who jumped on the Dub-ship when Skrillex made the sub-genre popular. The other issue is it's cheap to make compared to every other genre of music, so every 14 year old with a computer and a DAW can make it which means the internet gets flooded with new people spamming their works. Here's the thing, if you want to make money with it, you need to be able to put something special into it that makes you stand out while not becoming a copy of Deadmau5, Skrillex, Avicii, Tiesto, etc.

:wave:Hi , you zero in on it and hit the target with you need to create something different then what everyone else is doing .
Problem is I haven't found that something special , I'm working on it by improving my keyboard skills and the way I create my music .
If you heard me seven years ago when I first started and compair that with what I'm creating now you would know I'm on the right track but not there .
I said five years but it could be less if I keep improving the way I have been in the last four months .
What I really need to do is focus on my keyboard skills mostly , I'm a ok player now but I know down inside I can be much better in a year or two .

I need to sound better then the average piano or keyboard player if I'm going to get to the next phase of my learning process .
You sound like you know alot about music and what it takes to get somewhere , my hope is God will put me where he wants me to be in this high teck world we live in.
Your right about electronica music everyone is flooding the internet with it but you have to remember theres always some people who stand out more when creating electronica type music .

Music has change so much in the last ten years , everyone is trying to make their own music now and the companies who make music software are now taking aim at the little guys who want to buy their product to make their own music .
They could care less if your good or not its all about selling their products , Store album sales have dropped and the big bands are not making the money they use to make .

Its really a jungle out there trying to make it in the music world today , its not like it used to me years ago when I was playing drums .
I hope someday soon I can make money at creating music , hopefully I can but in this fast moving world we live in today anything can happen where it ends up just being a hobby .

Keep the faith and pray and work hard at creating music and improving my music skills , thats all I can do and hope God has a reward for me within the next five years .

With God all things are possible , pray -play and pray more and follow Gods path to the road to success .

God bless you my friend -James

If you're working with electronic music, don't worry too much about being really really good at piano. Most people who work in electronic music couldn't even play twinkle twinkle little star. The big thing about electronic music is midi editing. Make sure you're using a DAW with great midi editing tools. While I occasionally use a midi controller keyboard while producing electronic stuff, I find more often than not I start just writing in the notes on a piano roller because I just have to go back and edit all the notes anyway to make sure they are at the right place and velocity anyway. Human error in electronic music tends to sound sloppy, so you want to eliminate that as much as possible.

The reality is that bands have the ability to make more money from selling albums now than they ever did because they can now self-promote and distribute where as 10 years ago, they relied on the recording industry for promotion and distribution of their material which led to a lot of that money going to a lot of middle men which meant the band got a very small portion from those sales.

Now days, you can promote yourself through social networking and word of mouth much easier than before and you can distribute yourself or for a small fee, through one of many portals online such as iTunes, Amazon, Beatport, Fixt Music, etc. and much of that money goes into your account rather than the account of the RIAA.

It's certainly a challenge to do so and takes the right type of person. Just remember to also build yourself up for the criticism that will certainly come with releasing tracks.

:wave:Just finished a meal eating out , good advice and tips thanks for sharing .
I have a internet friend who is a professional musican and is a pro at creating electronica music .
Do a search for Homeless Balloon and checkout his music , hes making $100,000.00 a year creating and selling his music . He does TV shows , has some really great music videos and has a long list of electronica music to listen to and buy .
He plays professionally guitar, violin , piano and keyboard and a few other cool instruments .
He shared with me and given me some good advice on creating electronica music and I was thankful for his advice and tips .

My goal is to hopefully create music as good as his music , as for the promoting part of it he must have someone doing that for him because hes everywhere on the internet . All the places you talk about hes selling his music there .

What type of DAW would you suggest using ? Right now I'm using Project 5 by CakeWalk and Reason 5 and Record .
I also use Addictive drum software for creating all my drum tracks and some other drum software as well .

Thanks for the advice and tips , is there a PM I can reach you at . I'll be gald to give you my e-mailing address and share with you some of my music I have recently created .

Thanks again -James

It all comes down to personal preference. My personal studio, I use Cakewalk Sonar X1 Producer. I spend a lot of time in ProTools Studios but I prefer the tools in Sonar for a lot of my own projects. The biggest options out there are Sonar, ProTools, Cubase, and if you have a Mac, Logic is an option.

You can PM me on here, that would be fine.

Hey guys, I'm new to the board and very happy that it has a music section.
I've been producing off and on since i was 18, so like 11 years ago. I wish that in that time, i would've remained focused and not stop. But i kept taking lots of breaks lasting months and i would always return to step 1 with my skills and knowledge. I'm always buying magazines like sound on sound, music radar, future music and electronic musician.

I use cubase 5. I like NI's Massive and FM8. Also Sylenth1, Nexus, V-Station, Fabfilter's Twin, Z3ta+ 2, Korg's M1, Dune (underrated synth), Rob papen's Predator, Vanguard. I really want to get Omnisphere and the east/west stuff is just amazing. I really want to get one, but i'm not sure which one yet. And i haven't felt the need for it yet. But if i do, i'll get the strings collection vst. I don't really have a go to synth for everything. But i'm going to try and use sylenth1, twin, z3ta+ or massive in all my projects. Also, I want to get DiscoDSP Discovery 2. That's a pretty good VST synth. I like the demos i've heard on Youtube.

So because i've taken so many breaks, My music doesn't sound as mature as i'd like it to sound, but then again, i haven't really been working on just 1 song recently for a lot of time. I've been just messing around with 8 or 16 bar loops and trying to see if i can get a song out of it.
I listened to the Youtube video song that was posted in page 1. Very nice. I used to make Techno, Hard Techno, Tech-Trance, Some drum and bass and Breakcore. I've made 2 chill out tracks that people really seem to like. I do plan on making more Chill Out or Psybient tracks. I'm also in to psy-trance, but i don't think i want to produce it, Just listen to it. Psy-Chill or Psybient sounds really nice as well. If anybody wants to listen to my stuff or be my friend, it's @ soundcloud and my sn is DeefexNY, I'm on twitter and FB as well if anyone wants to follow or be friends. Look for Deefex ;) Hope to make some friends in here. I'm tired of the negativity in some of the other music boards.

Thats why I'm here , friendly people who care about their friends and believe in God .
I'll have to checkout some of your music if I can find the link , thanks agin for sharing with me your hobbies and interest in music .

Hey, Yeah, Sometimes people in those boards are pretentious just because they feel they've been in the "scene" long enough. I don't see why that's a reason to judge anyone or talk whichever way you'd like. Yeah, I have lots of demos that i get from the product's websites. And since i've been doing it on and off for a while, i've saved my money from time to time and got some of the synths. But now i'm unemployed and gotta wait to get monitors. Something i should've gotten instead of good headphones. I live somewhere where you can't really make a lot of noise, so i tried to get the best and cheapest for headphones i could for monitoring. I hope i can hear your new tune when it's done. I love music of all styles too. So it's not just EDM.
Yeah, i do intend on sticking around. I can become spiritually stronger and talk about music as well. :)
God Bless my friend

Hi , I share your feelings about the noise factor . I live in a apartment and I can't just play my music as loud as I would like to when I mix my music .
I have to wait till the lady up above me goes out and then I start mixing my music , it would be nice living in a home with a nice built in music studio but for me I make do with what I have to live with .

I look forward to listening to your music , today I came down with this bad cold and I'm thinking about going back to bed because I'm not in the mood for anything right now .
Chat later my friend , you can PM if you would like and maybe we can trade off e-mail addresses .

God Bless , music is in the air always !

Oh man! That sucks. I hope you get better and i'll include you in my prayers. I haven't had a cold in a while, but usually in the winter i get a lot of colds and just feel like staying in bed. I hope you are able to drink some tea. I look forward to listening to more of your music as well.
So it seems that we both share the noise issue. When i was in my teens-early 20s (i'm 30 now), i used to be a bit crazy. i was also addicted to alcohol, so i used to have the music on loud and the woman upstairs would always knock on my door and tell me to turn it down. I regret it to this day. She would come downstairs and i would be drunk and talking to her. But thank god i've stopped that and have gained strength and learned to refuse my urges to drink. but that's a story for another time. heh

So i hope you get better soon and i'll pray for you:prayer:. and i'll be right here to talk about music and whatever else when you are feeling better.
God Bless!

Moises

P.S. Do you read Future Music, Sound on Sound or Electronic Musician? I usually buy EMusician or Sound on Sound because they're the cheaper ones out of the rest. But there's this music radar (I think) out now that has so many tutorials in it. I love going to Barnes and Nobles because they usually have everything. Unlike the other magazines/news stores that have a lot of magazines. They usually just have sound on sound or electronic musican. I looked into getting a subscription but they are so much because they are from the U.K.
