Just wait till you get up in the 400 tracks range for a song. That's when things get really fun!

My last project I finished up was 432 tracks. You have to freeze a lot of the vst tracks to do something like that as you work to keep it going.
That was a cinematic project for a television show. Lots of strings being used for it.
Correct. Composing essentially the soundtrack, but only doing a couple tracks for it at this point.
Why five more years to get where you want to be?
Electronic music is a bit of a beast at the moment. The problem with it is that it's gotten too big and people are starting to get sick of it. Dubstep is already on the way out thanks to the influx of people who jumped on the Dub-ship when Skrillex made the sub-genre popular. The other issue is it's cheap to make compared to every other genre of music, so every 14 year old with a computer and a DAW can make it which means the internet gets flooded with new people spamming their works. Here's the thing, if you want to make money with it, you need to be able to put something special into it that makes you stand out while not becoming a copy of Deadmau5, Skrillex, Avicii, Tiesto, etc.
If you're working with electronic music, don't worry too much about being really really good at piano. Most people who work in electronic music couldn't even play twinkle twinkle little star. The big thing about electronic music is midi editing. Make sure you're using a DAW with great midi editing tools. While I occasionally use a midi controller keyboard while producing electronic stuff, I find more often than not I start just writing in the notes on a piano roller because I just have to go back and edit all the notes anyway to make sure they are at the right place and velocity anyway. Human error in electronic music tends to sound sloppy, so you want to eliminate that as much as possible.I need to sound better then the average piano or keyboard player if I'm going to get to the next phase of my learning process .
The reality is that bands have the ability to make more money from selling albums now than they ever did because they can now self-promote and distribute where as 10 years ago, they relied on the recording industry for promotion and distribution of their material which led to a lot of that money going to a lot of middle men which meant the band got a very small portion from those sales.Your right about electronica music everyone is flooding the internet with it but you have to remember theres always some people who stand out more when creating electronica type music .
Music has change so much in the last ten years , everyone is trying to make their own music now and the companies who make music software are now taking aim at the little guys who want to buy their product to make their own music .
They could care less if your good or not its all about selling their products , Store album sales have dropped and the big bands are not making the money they use to make .
It's certainly a challenge to do so and takes the right type of person. Just remember to also build yourself up for the criticism that will certainly come with releasing tracks. Its really a jungle out there trying to make it in the music world today , its not like it used to me years ago when I was playing drums .
I hope someday soon I can make money at creating music , hopefully I can but in this fast moving world we live in today anything can happen where it ends up just being a hobby .

Now days, you can promote yourself through social networking and word of mouth much easier than before and you can distribute yourself or for a small fee, through one of many portals online such as iTunes, Amazon, Beatport, Fixt Music, etc. and much of that money goes into your account rather than the account of the RIAA.
