I have to get back to my Bible study, but before I go, I'd like to ask you something Statrei...if you disagree with every doctrine the Adventist church has, how can you portray yourself as Adventist on this site or anywhere else for that matter?

If you'll just answer me that one question I will dust off my sandals and let you have at it.

So back to the thread, I am posting a link re how Jews typically keep Shabbat. Very different in many aspects from the way Adventists keep it.

http://www.jewfaq.org/shabbat.htm
"The Nature of Shabbat
The Sabbath (or Shabbat, as it is called in Hebrew) is one of the best known and least understood of all Jewish observances. People who do not observe Shabbat think of it as a day filled with stifling restrictions, or as a day of prayer like the Christian Sabbath. But to those who observe Shabbat, it is a precious gift from G-d, a day of great joy eagerly awaited throughout the week, a time when we can set aside all of our weekday concerns and devote ourselves to higher pursuits. In Jewish literature, poetry and music, Shabbat is described as a bride or queen, as in the popular Shabbat hymn Lecha Dodi Likrat Kallah (come, my beloved, to meet the [Sabbath] bride). It is said "more than Israel has kept Shabbat, Shabbat has kept Israel."

Hey everyone. I know Sabbath has pasted for this week. I was curious how everyones Sabbath was? What did we all do during that time??

I went to church and stayed for potluck and hung around and fellowshipped with friends/church family. it was a very nice time. we had special prayer for a good friend, who is from our church, who is leaving today for Lima, Peru. he is going there to work with homeless children on the streets. he will be going to the orphanages and working with them also. He has been supporting a little girl there, who is 9 years old now, for around 5 years or so. he is going to get to finally meet her and spend the day with her all day wednesday. he is so excited about that! i am excited for him for that also. this is his first airplane ride ever and he is in his late 40's. he is a little nervous but very excited. it was nice to spend the afternoon talking to him about all he is going to do there. please, keep pete in your prayers!

please everyone, share your day with us all!

Funny you should ask..... :)

Austin and I stayed after church for potluck as well and had some great fellowship. Afterwards we came home and had our regular "Sabbath siesta" (is it just me, or are Sabbath naps the most restful naps ever?).

My oldest son wanted to play Bible Scattergories so we started that. We all learn a lot from "challenging" each other's answers. I never thought knowing the cities in Judah would be so important. LOL

During the middle of that game our electricity went out (and stayed out for over 6 hours)!!!! It forced us to do what we should've been doing every single Sabbath. We went outside and enjoyed nature for hours. I regretfully say that we probably wouldn't have spent that much time outdoors if the electricity hadn't gone out. In fact, the reason the electricity went out in the first place was because of a bad rainstorm, so not only was it NICE outside, it was also beautiful. It's been really hot and humid here lately.

The immense heat would've kept us indoors most of the day.

Long story short, we had a blessing in disguise yesterday and my entire family really benefitted from all the time we spent with God in His creation and with each other.

Our God is SO good!!!
