Yeah. Somewhere he went wrong and never got the Holy Spirit. I think he had a demon or something and Peter saw that or knew that somehow.

Well said. I agree.

Oh, and you are going to Thanksgiving under an uncomfortable situation?
If so, then I am proud of you, brother.
Forgive, and love them with the love of Christ, brother.
Stay strong!

Yes, I am going. Thank you for your advice.

Nothing left to say in regards to him then. If you believe what he believed all I can say is... wow. I totally disagree with the ultra disturbing things he believed.

I take John 3:19-21 to mean that those who do not want their sin or the fact that they are a sinner, exposed (by the light) (Job of the Law) and the fact that even their sins (deeds) were wrought in (the will of) God, or are, or perhaps "were" (past tense) all a part of God's plan for them... these ones that love the light will freely admit, but not brag or try to justify or anything, their sins (deeds), and that even those were or are, or were a part of God's plan and will for them, that led them (brought them) to where they are with God (now), and are or were a part of where they are going...

The ones that do not want their sin(s) exposed by the light, hate the light, but would rather choose to, or would rather remain in the dark, or love the darkness more, so to speak (cause their deeds were or are evil)...

Because they don't want to be shamed or ashamed and because of their pride issues and ego issues and their wanting to hold onto their (false, fake) reputations of image(s) or how they appear or look on the outside toward, to or before, or in front of others (men or man), and they care very much more about that, (their reputations and images before men) (which are false and fake) then they do the truth or the light, or Jesus or God, or "anything else" that they should truly be concerned with...

They are worshiping their own fake false image and making it and Idol and their God...

They refuse to bear any of their own shame, guilt, regret, ect, ect, cause they just "can't stomach it" I guess, would be my guess anyway, so they "hate the light" that exposes it/this/them...

God Bless!

We confess when we slip up and when the flesh gets the better of us. We do it because we are saved. A truly converted person will want above all to live a totally holy life because "without holiness no-one will see the Lord." and "Except your righteousness exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisee, you shall not inherit the kingdom of God." This is why any truly converted Christians will have such a strong desire to maintain absolute holiness that he or she will be constantly coming to God's throne of grace to talk to God and discuss their shortcomings, weaknesses and failures. When they get into a bind, they will come to God and work things out with Him so that the Holy Spirit will "bail them out" and get them on the right path again.

When I was active duty, whenever we finished an exercise or any significant action, we would have afterward a "debriefing," or "hot washup" or some other fairly formal session where we identified all the mistakes we made and identify how to avoid those mistakes in the future.

I look at confession as a Christian in the same way. Unlike others think (expressed in other threads), I don't believe I'm continuously slipping in and out of salvation on a moment-by-moment basis depending on when I last sinned and when I last confessed.

But as a Christian, I am always concerned that I'm in step with the will of the Father, so I have "debriefings" periodically with the Holy Spirit to go over events of the past and identify those that were not according to the pattern that the Lord had predetermined for my day, and I try to avoid making the same false step twice.

Many times, I hadn't even been aware of a deviation at the time until I have that "debriefing" with the Holy Spirit, who brings it to my attention. That's what Paul was talking about in 1 Corinthians 11:28.

Gospel of grace and freedom not slavery and works.

Strange how they immediately start pushing the "slavery and works" accusation as defense.

I personally know no one who depends on works alone for salvation, (I'd suggest a simple search for "faith and works") so since the claim isn't even true, it can only be a very desperate attempt at a defense for a "sin all we want" salvation. Why are such desperate attempts needed...a good question I think.

Also, I can only assume grace only also means Jesus was wrong in the Sheep and the Goats parable, and we no no longer have to help the poor in order to make heaven.

Easy peasy salvation, people love it.

Good point Oscar.

The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin because we are saved and have the Holy Spirit.

lol. And it's strange how works orientated salvation makes desperate accusations at grace saying it is because grace is a "sin all you want" salvation, according to your words.

I've never read in the Bible this 'sin all you want' desperate attempt at slandering other children of God.

Why are such desperate attempts needed...a good question I think.

Sounds like we have the pot calling the kettle black situation here. Hi Pot.

I don't believe that is the case. Repentance (or to "repent") mentioned in the Bible repeatedly shows us that it is seeking forgiveness with God or with a person.

Again, Luke 17:3 says, "Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him." This doesn't make any sense if "repent" means to have a change of mind about sin. For how can we reconcile with a brother if we do not say we are sorry vs. just going on about life as if we did nothing wrong?

This means that we have to be able to recognize when a person "repents" so as to be able to forgive them personally in their presence. A change of mind, a belief on Jesus, or a change of mind would not be recognizable by another person that they have repented whereby you would forgive them.

As for your analogy you made about violence:

I believe that is inappropriate, friend. Paul says we are to speak full of grace seasoned with salt. We are told by Jesus to love our enemies. John the Baptist says do no violence to no man.

Right, why would Jesus allow the rich man to walk away with thinking He had to do works for salvation?
Was Jesus's whole point that we could not keep His law?
I see the end of Matthew 19 as making a point that the disciples had to forsake all as a part of everlasting life. Granted, some rich men this did not apply (Like with Zacchaeus). For Zacchaeus was only willing to give away half of his good and yet Jesus said salvation had come to his house that day (Luke 19:1-10).

What was the works of salvation that the rich man had to do?

Maybe it was because the rich man loved his money and that wealth was an idol and more important than God.

The only thing Jesus asked was to give away his money.

That’s not a work.

I have known some OSAS proponents who think you can sin as much as you want and you are still saved. I sometimes think some people (not you) hide this fact by saying that we should live holy. But there is still some level of condoning sin in the OSAS belief (even if one were not to think this way). For OSAS folk or the Belief Alone Camp all say King David was saved while he committed his sins of adultery and murder. They say it is not condoning sin, but it is condoning sin because one is saying that if David is saved in his sins, then that means we can be, too. Sure, David repented or confessed of his sins to God. But is confession of sin all it takes? Is that what saves? According to what you said, confession after coming to God by faith does not effect one's salvation. So it really would not matter if David confessed or not according to your belief. Unless of course you want to change your belief and say that confession is necessary part of the salvation equation if a believer sins.

Uh, no. Jesus told the rich young ruler to sell his possessions (work) and give it to the poor (more work) and follow me (even more work) (See Matthew 19:21).
