If so, why?

If not, why not?

Yes I do.

I don't have cable or an antenna so I can catch nothing bu DVDs and video (for as long as the hold out).

I have thought about getting very basic cable ($13 a month) or an antenna for local news programs, but I don't seem to be able to get around to it.

Yes I have a TV

For me it is a link to the world which I am part of, it fills hours of void and loneliness. If I am responsible I will not watch things that might bring on addictions and also limit my reading or 'get in the way' of healthy living, both mentally and Spiritual.

My family and I do not ever watch TV (only certain videos that we consider wholesome and/or inspirational). I could write a long essay on it:p, but right now I think I will let a TV advertising slogan say it for me: "It brings the world right into your home" :help: :prayer:

God bless!

Y'all will probably think I'm weird. I have never had a TV in my home.

My parents didn't have one and I used to go to school when I was a young girl and hear all about Red Skelton movies and how good they were, and then in my teens I'd hear about MASH and series like that and how I'd wish we'd have a TV. Then I got married and life was too busy to hobnob with my former friends and I sort of forgot about "the other side." Now my family is grown and I'm back in the mainstream of society and again I'm beginning to feel a little left out sometimes. I'm a reporter and every now and then I'll run into someone who mentions a talk show or soap and I'll have to ask for that spelling. :D How funny is that? And where's this nearly half-a-century-old woman been all her life? Does she know who Mickey Mouse is? I'll bet she doesn't know who Oprah is. (did I spell that right?)

But on the serious side, I agree that there are a lot of good and informative things that come over TV and I dont' have any problem with that. I also agree with the rest of you that it's not the TV that's bad, it's what comes over it at times.

I suppose the most that I've been exposed to TV has been the times we lived at the Ronald McDonald house during our daughter's cancer treatments. This was about 10 years ago. We battled that for two years and during those times lived at the R McD houses for whole weeks and even months at a time. We watched TV every day and what bothered me was the instantaneous split-second bad stuff. By the time you realized what they'd said or what the picture was it was gone. So do you change the channel? Well.....it's over now, you know. First thing I knew I found myself thinking bad words that I had never thought of before. Like, if I had to wait half of forever on the elevator, or if I simply couldn't open a pill bottle, or anything like that, cuss words would pop into my mind. I didn't like the mental spiritual tug-of-war that I blamed on the TV exposure. So whenever I consider getting a TV, just for news and weather you know, I remember the struggle I had with my thoughts during that time. Of course, I'm not blaming the spiritual battles strictly on our TV watching. I believe there was a lot of spiritual warfare going on otherwise too - such as with any physical ailment you have exhaustion which hampers daily devotional time, which leads to spiritual leanness of soul. Then there are also the dynamics of Satan "kicking you when you're down."

All this to say that I dont' have a TV and never have. I'm not sure when there'd be time to watch it if we had one. And I know only too well how it is with me. If I have something that I enjoy, I will make time for it no matter. (Like CF) And I also know that whenever I'm exposed to wicked things on a regular basis I'm soon confused about what's wicked and what isn't.

I'm not saying because I dont' have one you shouldn't either (I'm not implying that at all) but for myself and my family, (and my husband's with me on this) we dont want a TV. Personal preference only - it's not a conscience thing. (Or is it? Maybe I'm confused and don't realize it.) I do know this that I was taught that TV's are not for the Christian home, and even though I may not agree now as an adult, I do realize that when we go against the teachings of our forefathers something valuable is lost. Not in terms of sin or not sin, but in terms of respect for them and they for us. There also tends to be a confusion of boundary lines when we go against our forefathers and I've seen many who have done exactly the opposite from what they were taught is right, and ended up "slopping hogs."

Pardon my long post. And thanks for listening to a chubby, 49 year old, mother of four, mamabear who loves to write better than she loves to talk.

We have never had a TV in our home, either. It's not that I feel like it is so sinful as much as just useless. There are so many other things we can do that are much better for us. I really don't know when we'd find the time to watch it! :)

We had a tv at home when i was growing up, but since I have moved away to school I haven't had one and don't miss it at all. I probably won't have one in my house, unless it's just for watching movies, etc. That's what my bf's family has. They have a tv and dvd player, but no cable or anything. So we watch movies, and tv series on dvd. It's nice to be able to watch tv shows without the advertising!

We have a TV.

My wife likes certain TV shows, forensics ect.
I particulary don't care for television. I do watch FOX news from time to time and maybe a few rented DVDs. I like Old time radio ( Gunsmoke, the Green Hornet, The Shadow) so much better.
