• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

So I have a song on repeat that I often play when I am going through a dark episode. And it got me thinking.... Do other people who suffer have a song they listen to when they are in their dark times?

Just curious.
Here's Mine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49tpIMDy9BE

The lyric that speaks the most to me in those moments.
Somebody shine a light
I'm frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me

Thankful for grace

I don't really go out of my way to listen to specific pieces of music. What happens is that I will have songs automatically playing around in my head (meaning, God brings them to my mind when I need them) that speak to me - praise songs from worship service, or songs from choir, that speak to the inner turmoil, but also speak of hope. No wallowing songs as a general rule, but I can't say I've never done that.

I love music for a variety of reasons but I don't really turn to it when I'm in crisis. I think it's because that's not the way my brain works as a person with bipolar 1. Although I do have a tape called Peace. It has every Scripture on peace from the Word set to music. I pull that out from time to time and that's always good.
